Forums - Sony - [Poll] Best 1st-Party Sony Game on PS5 (so far)

Which would you consider the best?

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales 0 0%

Returnal 7 14.89%

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart 4 8.51%

Gran Turismo 7 2 4.26%

Horizon Forbidden West 2 4.26%

God of War: Ragnörak 8 17.02%

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 1 2.13%

Astro Bot 20 42.55%

Ghost of Yotēi 2 4.26%

Other 1 2.13%

Total:47

I've actually only completed 3:

Rift Apart, God of War and Astrobot.

I'll have to say Astrobot.

Enjoyed all 3 games but God of War was a bit of disappointment and felt like an 8 after the last game was like a near 10. It didn't really evolve the gameplay enough to match the story scope, nor did the story match the quality of the first game. Ratchet was great fun but lacked a bit of inspo gameplay/level wise (also an 8 for me). Great but rarely amazing.

Astro however hit its mark exactly and is a 9/10 in my books. There's room for growth (improved core move set+ slightly more world design)

Next I'm very excited to play Ghost of Yotei and Wolverine. Hopefully Saros is more accessible than Returnal, in which case I may eventually pick that up too

Wow I surprised by all the votes for R&C. Maybe I should check that game out sometime… funny, I’ve already got it purchased on my Steam account. Saw it on a deep discount.

Have you played any of the series before? Ratchet games are all solid apart from the few spin-offs (qforce/FFA and all4one).

It's one of my favourite game series, Astro Bot gets my vote though. Ratchet games are just consistently 8/10 experiences imo, but I love them lol.

I have not— R&C, Sly Cooper, and Jak & Daxter have always been on my radar, but I’ve never given the time of day to any of them. Would love to give them a try some day!

I voted for Horizon, but I second Demon Soul's as best than anything in the list. Retunal should then close the top 3

Astro bot and Returnal in 2nd

Ghost of Yotei. I was constantly amazed by the scenery (much of the time the views are like looking at a painting), and everything else about the game was either great or good too. It's not a perfect game by any means, but I don't think the game really has any notable lows.

It's a close win against Astro Bot though. Astro Bot overall is probably more fun, but some of the more difficult stuff doesn't fit in in an otherwise easy game in my opinion, and especially some of those challenges were quite annoying to complete. Essentially consistency is what gives Ghost of Yotei the edge over Astro Bot in my books.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is a worthy contender, kind of, but in a typical Insomniac fashion it just falls short of greatness. Insomniac creates some very good games, but none of the ones I've played have quite been top-tier games in my opinion. Rift Apart is no exception. I'm not sure there's even anything in particular I can point out to be lacking, but it's lacking something to reach greatness. One thing I can say though is that achievement design (I played the game on PC) and game design don't go at all well together, because there isn't quite enough content to upgrade all your weapons by the time you're done with your second playthough, and starting a third walkthrough just to upgrade those last few weapons feels a bit much.

The rest I don't care about, don't care about enough to play them, or would be really surprised if I found them better than the games I've mentioned, so I feel like I can safely ignore them.

Yotei is fantastic, are you playing the Legends mode? I have over 20hours on it already lol.

I loved the harder levels on Astro Bot, tho.

I loved that the Dart bot (from LoD) was in a challenge instead and I had to work for it, watching him being taken away so I could save it was cool lol.

I'm not fond of paying for online play in general, so no. Funny enough, I'm also not a fan of the visual design, at least based on how it was in GoT and how it seems in GoY. I might check it out when there's a free weekend but otherwise I probably won't touch it (unless I can play solo like I could much of the content in GoT).

The hard stuff in Astro Bot was good too, but I thought it felt really out of place. When I played Astro Bot, I was there for a game of good vibes, not a feeling of achievement after thorough hardship.

Ragnarok and AstroBot are my favorites, hands down, both fantastic in their own genre.
Forbidden West and Yotei are also pretty great
R&C Rift Apart is pretty good and very entertaining
Not listed here, but Stellar Blade is also pretty good. Its one of those games i expected little from and turned out quite surprisingly good.

The Legends mode is free if you have Ghost of Yotei (as you do) and you can play solo, yes, everytime you choose a story quest, survival or incursion it will ask if you want to match with other people or not. I think you'll have bots addressed to you at least in survival as it's literally impossible to play it solo (as you have to defend 3 separared bases at the same time), tho.

Oh, it's not Legends whose price I care about - because it's free just like you said - it's PS+ that I absolutely despise. Anyway, sounds like there might be something for me to try out even without PS+, although survival sounds like free weekend stuff for me. Thanks for the details! I read up a bit about Legends when it was released but I don't think the solo part was mentioned anywhere then. I'm currently playing something else, so I'll have to wait until I try Legends, but we'll see if it does indeed work in solo mode without PS+ like GoT did.

Demon's Souls is not 1° party. Amazing game, but not 1° party title.

I'll try to boot up a solo play for all 3 kinds of modes later and let you know if I can play solo, as every time I choose to match with other people instead, up until now. I'm not sure if it works without PS+ tho. Free games do, but it is not a free game tho, and it's built inside GoY and not a separated "purchase".

Yeah, PS+ is expensive, sadly.

Edit: I can confirm you can indeed play all 3 modes solo, but well... aside from the Story mode I REALLY recommend you not to. You get no help whatsoever so Incursions will be insane in the boss fights alone, and Survival, well, pretty much impossible unless you go do silver levels when you have platinum level gear, you'll always lose 2 of the 3 bases as you can only be once at a time, so aside from Story you really won't get anything good out of it if not matching with other players.

Raids should be even worse to try alone once they release too.
