Forums - Sales - FF7 Remake apparently off to a strong start on Switch 2

Hasn't everyone at least seen a playthrough of this by this point? Or have Nintendo players managed to avoid those, hoping to get a port?

Given this is a PS4 & 5 game, I suspect many have come across this game but are double dipping (enthusiasts). Especially as we're looking at early Switch 2 adopters and not a broader market who maybe didn't invest in another system. But the Switch 2 version is a great way to play, comes with a collector Item (FFVII card) and watching a playthrough isn't the same as playing.

Although even then I don't think a huge portion of people watch playthroughs of games they're interested in but haven't yet had the chance to play. Personally I only watch it for games where I gave up or know I won't ever get round to playing.

Anecdotally I got my friend to pick this up, it'll be his first FF since FFX on PS2. Relatively casual gamer and so refuses to invest in more than one system per generation. Skipped PS3/360 and opted for a Switch over a PS4. The S2 will be the first time he gets exposed to a lot of popular modern AAA franchises.

1) Many might only own one console, inflation is real.

2) People probably are double dipping because there isn't much to play on the S2 at the moment.

3) Collectors.

4) Fandom, it wouldn't shock me if many were uninterested but suddenly are now, happens all the time in gaming when something gets ported.

Same could be said about GTA V, yet it still regularly breaks the Top 10s around the world even after over 10 years on the market. There are many factors why this port of FF7 Remake sells on Switch 2.

So far the part 1 and part 2 of the Remake are disappointing. They should take note from Capcom.
Plus Square Enix uses an horrible anti aliasing since FFXV. That's shame because FFXIII was ahead of it's time on the graphic side when it was released.

At this point, I would like more a FFXIII Trilogy remaster.

The most recent PlayStation in my household is a PS3 which I haven’t touched since the era of Assassin’s Creed 2. Switch 2 is the first gaming console I’ve owned this game has come out on.

But just think about it from a logical and statistical standpoint: the game previously had 7 million sales, that’s quite a bit lower than the total number of people who  own a Switch 2, and in all likelihood. It’s even less likely when you factor in that all FF7 owners are not Switch 2 owners.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

In Japan at least, cross console ownership isn't that usual, meaning there are Nintendo only gamers there that have some interest in Final Fantasy that never bought a PS to play FF7 Remake, in western markets its more likely that there are some enthusiasts that are double dipping to play the game on Switch 2 as well.

OG FFVII sold 15 million, Remake sold 7 million...  looks of potential buyers.

To throw in my two cents as someone who bought it, I didn't grow up with Final Fantasy and didn't have a PS4 in the 8th gen, so the game passed me by when it first came out.

Recently, I've been making more of a conscious effort to try out things that normally wouldn't be my cup of tea, as I found I was missing out on a lot of great experiences by sticking too closely to my comfort zone when it came to games, and having bought a Switch 2, I'm keen to try out my new system, so when a demo for FF7R dropped on Switch 2 last month I gave it a go, found I enjoyed it, and so took the plunge and grabbed the full game.

I don't really watch playthroughs of games, so while I do know some of the basics of FF7 through pop culture osmosis, it's still a mostly new experience.

You are in for a treat, the game is really really fun.
