Wii U and Vita really were massive failures huh.

Wii U deserved it but Vita was amazing hardware. Just lacked the strategic support from Sony. Ultimately though it reflected the reality of software development and the direction of the industry. Dedicated handheld software makes sense when its extremely cheap. Once you surpass PS2 level quality it begins to become unsustainable next to home console development.

As I replyed to someone else, I think the Vita had great hardware but really lacked exclusives, and the Wii U had great exclusives but was not attractive as a purchase.

WiiU software greatly helped in Switch"s success though.

Yeah by the time it got its "system sellers" like Smash Bros Ultimate & Mario Kart 8, it was already deemed a flop. It lacked single player oriented games like mainline Zelda & mainline Mario, the fact it was directly competing with PS4/X1 (launched 1 year later) didn't help

Our current estimates at VGChartz has the Switch 2 at 557K sold through as of November 29 in the UK. With Chris announcing this now the data he is reporting on is likely as of the week ending December 27, which leaves 4 weeks of sales for us to top the 740K of the PS Vita or 183K left to go.

I've been taking a bit of a break for the holidays if anyone is wondering the lack of daily news.

Yeah, Nintendo was still trying to compete as a home console and so people expected it to have third party support for the big games, but when the other consoles released one year later it was clear it was too weak and people went for the others, specially the PS4 that had the better of both worlds (exclusives + third parties).

While those consoles were all failures, outselling their lifetime sales in just 6 month is still quite something; it took Wii U just over 4 years to reach its final tally for instance, that's a pace of more than 8 times faster.

As you should!

Pretty low bar to clear, to be honest.

Assuming your current projections are accurate in the UK this is pretty good to know too as it will help estimate PS5 and Xbox sales in the UK.  Assuming the Switch 2 lands around 190k for December,  we will be able to extrapolate the other consoles sales based on their marketshare that month.

That was my thought.  Outselling, basically the only main Nintendo console that crashed and burned, I would sure hope so.
