Forums - Nintendo - Monster Hunter Wilds TU4 Datamine Hints Switch 2 Version Is Coming

While wanting to port the game is understandable, and I don't oppose it, at this point yeah I am much more interested in the next game from the Rise team, which will hopefully be built for Switch 2 from the start.

Given that it was 7 years from World to Wilds though, I'm fully prepared for Rise 2 to arrive in like 2028, 7 years after Rise.

I said this many times though, sitting down and even taking a year to optimize for Switch 2 would be more profitable for them than making random Megaman game on Switch 2 or something though. A game like that sells what? Maybe 500k? At best?

A Switch 2 port of Wilds would sell millions of copies, even if you have to devote a dev team to sit down with the mess of a game they have and optimize it from the ground floor up ... it would be more than worth it.

And you could apply those optimizations to the PC and other home console versions as well and hopefully try to get some legs going on the game (its been bombing legs wise because the game has terrible word of mouth due to terrible performance).

I agree that a Switch 2 port would be worth it, I just wasn't sure Capcom would see it that way given the massive amount of work that would be needed to get this thing running acceptably on Switch 2 when it's already a dog's dinner on PS5.

Hopefully it does happen though; I wouldn't double dip myself as I already played it, but a lot of players in Japan especially might want to give it a go but not have  PS5/Xbox Series/gaming rig.

It's probably already running on Switch 2 at like 15fps720p, which sounds like a joke but actually that is a decent starting place for a game of this kind. This is less work then something like getting Witcher 3 on the OG Switch. The PS5 at least has a performance mode which is a starting point for the S2 version.

I'm not sure we'll be getting separate MHs anymore, I think that was just something born of technical differences and wanting to keep the series handheld friendly. Unless Nintendo is financing it.

It is Wild (no pun intended) how technically backwards this game is. It seems like RE engine has evolved really well for linear, sectioned environments but is not at all coping with open world experiences. At least Dragons Dogma had nice RT global illumination, but Wilds just looks like a PS4 game

Honestly, any Japanese dev that isn't making Switch 2 a priority to develop for and then just port to PS5, PC, and other platforms later is just foolish.
Unless Sony forks over mountains of cash to maintain timed or full exclusivity, then it's understandable (to a degree). But developing for Switch 2 first and then going from there just seems to make the most sense.

They did that with Monster Hunter Rise and almost no one bought it on any other platform. The perception of it being a Switch game really hurt sales, even on PC(World sold about 3x as much on PC). Overall World sold 11.3m copies more than Rise.

I’d say the most important market for Monster Hunter is now PC.

Not happening. They will release another game built for Switch 2 and then port to PS5 and PC

At this point what Capcom needs is to make the public forget Wilds exists and release a quick successor to calm dawn the nerves

Would prefer one built for Switch 2 from the start. Don't have much faith in their ability to optimise this one, considering so many months after release it still has optimization issues on other platforms.

Not shocked. As mentioned long before the S2 release, anything can be ported. Just a matter of time, money and sacrifices. In the cause of the S2 resolution and fps will take a huge hit. Particle, volumetric, lighting and draw distance will be cut back. Good chance less monsters on the screen as well, much like Cyber did with cars and NPCs.

“Consoles are great… if you like paying extra for features PCs had in 2005.”

I think Capcom has been working on a exclusive build for Switch 2 for quite some time, like Square did with Dragon Quest XI.

I'm doubtful tbh Wilds is more designed around the console version approach rather than the approach of the portable variants like Rise was so the game's structure won't really take advantage of the hybrid nature of the hardware which would lead to a NSW2 version not really doing anything for the sales of Wilds. This is a reason why Rise's sales did so little when ported to PS4 and X1 as it's structure is more centred around each mission being done in bitesize chunks to accommodate on the go gaming, ironically though this is also why Rise's sales have been better than Wilds despite being the older game as the MH Portable subculture that is driven by lan style gatherings is only viable with the portable variants, they'd be better off doing a NSW2 edition/upgrade if Rise and then doing a ground up game for the platform.

I'll put some more infos that include things like local multiplayer and a own preset of DLSS for Switch 2 (I'll just put the article below).

About the DLSS, Switch 2 has its own DLSS presets, the regular version includes Preset A-C.

The Switch 2 Version (currently) culls NPCs slightly differently. For most the distance it triggers at is cut in half (100 regular/50 NSW2). It also seems to always cull for most NPCs. The NPC refers to not just humans, but also monsters and the like. It's also mentioned that the Switch 2 version has local multiplayer.

Potentially Switch 2 Wilds Related

The spawn rate for Endemic Life MIGHT be fifthed in the Switch 2 Version. The problem here though is that (while not shown in this image), the empty PlatformID is named "OPT". As such it's possible that this isn't related to the NSW2 Version, but the January Steam Update, since you'll be able to change CPU related settings in it. For further context, the NSW2 Version is always named with NSW2, but this COULD be related, so I'll mention it. (BUT DON'T COUNT ON THIS BEING ACTUALLY NSW2 STUFF).

RE ENGINE Related

No we obviously aren't getting a Wilds Upgrade Edition (why would we even??). This seems to just be something they added into RE ENGINE.

This could mean a few things (but like we have no actual proof for any of this so this is purely hypothetical)

  1. Rise gets a NSW2 Upgrade (I doubt this since they rarely touch previous games).

  2. Another RE ENGINE game is coming to both NSW1 and NSW2 and as such will have an Upgrade available.

The rest of the NSW2 mentions are mainly this, just listing it as a platform alongside current and defunct consoles (no Wilds isn't coming to Stadia I'm sorry).
