Lower than most predicted, only just in the 80-84 range I put.
Thought it didn't look particularly impressive from the trailers so I'm not that surprised but is a couple points lower than I thought.

Very disapointing review, as Metroid is the kind of game that will review usually well.
I think I may still buy it to try after all these years, but the handholding critics are verry worriying.

In all seriousness, I told yall this was the range it was headed to. The writing has been on the wall that things were not going amazingly for this game for a very long time. I think we’re just really lucky we didn’t end up with a train wreck tbh.

It probably would have been better to wait until they made a game from the ground up for Switch 2 and didn't have to worry about the Switch 1's limitations to implement that open world element. It's a shame, because otherwise the game seems practically perfect. |
The open world session is totally unnecessary even if developed with only Switch 2 in mind. It's a Metroidvania, the map design should be interconnected.
After watching DF's review, my guess is that it will be a better Metroid Prime game than 3 but worse than 1 and 2, for me. For all of the tantrum about the side-characters it seems like they have a smaller role than Corruption's.
Hope the game sells well regardless.
Honestly, Nintendo's entire lineup this year has reviewed a bit worse than I would've imagined.
| Series | Switch 1 Entry | Switch 2 Entry |
| 3D Super Mario / DK | 97 | 91 |
| Hyrule Warriors | 78 | 79 |
| Kirby Air Ride | N/A | 80 |
| Mario Kart | 92 | 86 |
| Metroid Prime | 94* | 81 |
| Pokemon Legends | 83 | 78 |
Roughly speaking, that's three or so games that fared notably worse than their Switch counterparts and NONE that fared better critically. Hopefully this is just me making a mountain out of a speed bump, but it does seem like a potential trend.

Eh… MarioKart, Metroid Prime, and DKBananza are a tad bit unfair to be comparing. I’d imagine MKWorld will stand toe-to-toe with MK8Deluxe once improvements such as 200cc, DLC courses, and further online fixes are implemented. MPRemastered was a shadow-dropped remake of one of the most critically revered games of all time. And while DKBananza is a big deal, Nintendo likely wasn’t giving it the same attention as a mainline 3D Mario. Maybe comparing it to DKCReturns/TF would be a more reasonable comparison? But then, still not the best.
As far as Pokémon is concerned, (i) that’s not Nintendo developed so Nintendo QA doesn’t seem too relevant here, and (ii) the game is objectively a big step up from all other Pokémon Switch games— even Legends Arceus (if not critically). Still has comparable OC score to Legends Arceus: 83 v 80.

I fully agree that these scores are lower that I would have guessed, but the comparisons you're using don't tell the full story.
I do think it's worth keeping an eye on scores heading into 2026, to see if this is truly a trend.

I literally got my Switch 2 to play it 💀 Not I'm also unsure if it worth getting full priced. I'll prioritize Octopath and Nightreign DLC and maybe wait a bit to play Metroid |
Did you pay full price? Mercado Livre and Amazon were running R$ 60 and R$ 50 discount coupons pretty regularly.

This. I will wait until 2 years to see if there is a trend in Nintendo games scoring noticeably lower
Nothing is looking to abnormal so far. 3D Mario and Zelda are very far I think, so the games like Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Xenoblade and Smash are the ones the that will gives us some. If all those score lower (and significantly lower, like 6 to 10 points lower) then we can say wr have a trend
