Honestly, Nintendo's entire lineup this year has reviewed a bit worse than I would've imagined. | Series | Switch 1 Entry | Switch 2 Entry | | 3D Super Mario / DK | 97 | 91 | | Hyrule Warriors | 78 | 79 | | Kirby Air Ride | N/A | 80 | | Mario Kart | 92 | 86 | | Metroid Prime | 94* | 81 | | Pokemon Legends | 83 | 78 |
Roughly speaking, that's three or so games that fared notably worse than their Switch counterparts and NONE that fared better critically. Hopefully this is just me making a mountain out of a speed bump, but it does seem like a potential trend. |
I fully agree that these scores are lower that I would have guessed, but the comparisons you're using don't tell the full story. - It's not like Super Mario and Donkey Kong are interchangeable. And Bananza's 91 is higher than DKC Returns' 87 and Tropical Freeze's 86.
- Hyrule Warriors is essentially the same.
- Kirby Air Riders is sitting at an 80, which in 19 points above the original Kirby Air Ride.
- Mario Kart World is 5-6 points lower than what's generally considered the pinnacle of the series. And it's only 1-2 points lower than vanilla Mario Kart 8.
- Metroid Prime 4 is a big drop, I'll give you that.
- Pokemon Legends is only 3-5 points lower, depending on the site you use.
I do think it's worth keeping an eye on scores heading into 2026, to see if this is truly a trend. |
This. I will wait until 2 years to see if there is a trend in Nintendo games scoring noticeably lower
Nothing is looking to abnormal so far. 3D Mario and Zelda are very far I think, so the games like Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Xenoblade and Smash are the ones the that will gives us some. If all those score lower (and significantly lower, like 6 to 10 points lower) then we can say wr have a trend
