Following up on this: today is my first day with 8hr of sleep in several weeks. :) I’m feeling very good! Now, I can engage in my Bible studies (b/c today is Bible study day, i.e. Sabbath) without feeling like passing out for several hours.

That's good. Sleep is essential. I hated my life in University, I thought it was due to some other factors. But nowadays I think it was due to the lack of sleep.

Nah my diet is exclusively protein (from chicken, shrimp, unsweetened greek yogurt, kale, and protein powder), healthy carbs/sugars (e.g. fiber from apples, mangos, berries, bananas, potatoes, etc.), healthy fats (though eaten in portion, all fats I consume come from unprocessed sources), and whatever vitamins come from this diet. I was born with a body that rejects added sugars, more than two bottles of water in given day, etc., similar to how some cannot tolerate lactose.

Thanks for expanding, your post made it sound like you only eat two things. 

This sounds similar to the CSIRO total well being diet (which I used to be on), but the excess amount of seeds and nuts has fucked up my digestive system for good lol.

I’m against nanny-state style regulations. Or regulations that are “for your own good” or “you’re too stupid to use this product correctly” or “this information is too dangerous for you to read/listen to” → non-exposure to critical issues only blunts a persons ability to think critically. For an example: This is why the “abstinence only” education areas are the ones drowning in teen pregnancy.

Note, this is not at all practical so more of a glib take, but here’s a thought:let it all exist, but make sure there is much more information available. Maybe show videos of how the food is prepared, show where the flesh comes from. Fruit flesh, show the fruit being harvested and prepared. Show the bread grains being manufactured to flour, whatever other strange additives that go into the bread (show Americans what they’re eating isn’t real bread). Show the animals being slaughtered and processed. I think that will make people choose healthier options… or at least not fool themselves into what they’re eating. For some restaurants this will be a horror show, but I think for others it will be quite appetizing.

I don't think that anyone has a solution to get rid of the mile long list of ingredients or the prevalence of fast food for that matter. The only way we can do anything at this point is eating more cleanly.

“Your lack of self-control” brother did you miss the part where I have the self-restraint to, for instance, not eat more than a gram of added sugar in a given day in four months? I’m arguing on behalf of the self-control of others— it is indisputably apparent that others lack the necessary self-restraint to consumer this food in healthy portions (as is reflected by the >50% obesity rate in U.S. and ~75% overweight rate), and are in need of a government to step in to protect them from predatory businesses.

i know how to handle on threads. This thread in particular originates from me eating a gluten-free waffle, having a reaction to it, and venting my opposition to unhealthy foods to the users of VGChartz.

I kind of agree.  It is worrying how bad modern day food is with all of the chemicals and plastics.  I've looked into this more and you start to see how alzheimers, obesity, etc result from these if one has too much microplastics and chemicals in their body.  It's further disheartening to realize how the people from big tobacco purchased fast food companies and have turned their attention to engineering foods that hit every kind of taste and yet are the worst thing you can put into your body.  

I've recently gone vegan and eat simply.  Just stuff from the produce aisle and beans, chia seeds, and yeast.  

Finally, i'll point to how the Flynn effect has peaked and apparently people are backsliding with their IQ now, and i beleive that this may be due to more microplastics in food, more chemicals, more fertilizer, obesity, etc.  It's all the same problem to me.

The main culprit in the lowering of humans IQ in the last 100 years was and still is leaded gasoline even though most gasoline is now unleaded and has been for over 40 years we still deal with its effects on humanity.  The asshole that thought that putting lead in gasoline Thomas Midgley Jr. also came up with Freon which was and is just as bad for humans and the planet.

Pickles on burgers are fine its mayo I have a problem with.  Mayo should never be put on a burger.



Food should be better regulated, esp. in the States where the guardrails are fewer in number and of dubious efficacy. There should be better rules regarding food safety & labeling, there should be rules regarding things like excess added sugars, and maybe even certain specific additives ought to be banned.

But banning the food itself outright? Nah.

If people choose to eat steaks or salads or ice cream or French toast or fried rice or pizza or whatever else, whether made from scratch, bought from the store, or ordered at a restaurant, that ought to be that person's choice, not the government's. However, people do have a reasonable expectation that their food isn't tainted and isn't processed more than necessary or unnecessarily loaded up with excess sugar or salt, and that is something I think governments ought to be responsible for. Europe does a much better job of this than the U.S.
