Forums - Nintendo - Activist Group Calls For Major Switch 2 Boycott

Considering the internet and it's many dwellers have already established better points to debate their angle than they themselves have ...

Might as well give that space to others, they won't help their case otherwise

Where were they when sony and MS raised prices on games 5 years ago?

Their games will be heavily discounted in time, though.

The mission statement of the Gaming Consumer Rights group:
"Gaming Consumer Rights wants to correct the corruption in video games that has pushed AAA towards greed and bloat. Gaming should be accessible and fun for everybody regardless of their budget, country, or lifestyle."

Well easy solution then. Free to play, demo's, phones, etc. There are a lot of low or no-cost options you know. I don't know why everybody should be entitles to AAA games. It's like protesting against the prizes of luxury cars, because people should have access to transportation.

Seems like a lot of noise just because of a few bucks. But whatever.

The article you linked is from ScreenRant. This right there should have been the hint to take this “news” with a grain of salt.

I mean, there are legitimate cases to be made against say the Switch 1 getting a price hike a couple months back, or the steep pricing on some of their Switch 2 Editions of Switch 1 games, DLC, and remasters.

But rubbish like "Switch 2 is overpriced/obsolete" or "there are using artificial scarcity" just makes the whole thing seem like the work of some crazed hater and just undermines any fair criticism that may have been found.

It's not legitimate when it turns out Nintendo was going easy compared to the hike other consoles got.

But yeah, I sure felt like the console was scarse and I had to buy it asap when they announced 7 million sales in 2 months or something.

Its kinda old news, but I just found today this subject and I gotta say that I am perplexed.

It look likes that that a group named "Gaming Consumer Rights" is attempting to physically present themselves on gaming events like New York Comic Con and The Game Awards to protest against Nintendo Switch 2 prices (Hardware and Software).

What are your thoughts?

I believe the correct label for these guys would be "a bunch of entitled idiots that have little understanding as to what they're talking about and nothing of importance to say" 😃

Boycott activism is most effective when it reveals information that might not be widely available, such as global supply chains that involve child, slave or near slave labour in sweat shops in countries with less stringent rules than the consumers within democratic countries are comfortable with... or companies that hide the toxic properties of their product, a major recent example of this was busting Monsanto for their glyphosate product... not the first time they were busted for something horrendous to consumer safety.

Contrast that to a price of a luxury item, a number as plain as day to anyone who can read numbers, and you see that they're not really achieving anything except insulting the intelligence of the people they're targeting. And while most people would like to pay as close to nothing as possible, they also know that's not how markets work. Luxury price calculations are determined by how much (an adequate number of) people will spend on an item, not by some moral ethic of making the price as close to nothing as possible.

Because of this, I'm sure if some dumb motherfucker got in my face to tell me what I can and cannot spend my own money on simply based on price, I'd be quite annoyed!😁 I mean, what kind of activism is that? They want to impose their spending habits on me because they don't want to spend the same amount of money on a product as I'm willing to. In other words, these sorts of "activists" are annoying fucking idiots, with tremendous entitlement issues, and nothing important to say.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

1. Artificial scarcity. No evidence for this. You could have a case for this with Wii and the NES and SNES Classic Editions. But with Switch 2, I don't see it at all.
2. Overpriced Switch 2 hardware. Not in Japan, shoot not even in the USA. Granted, the European markets and some others are getting a pretty raw deal in the price.
They have a point on Game Key Cards, $80 Switch 2 Editions and Mario Kart World at $80.
Have they said anything about Xbox's outrageous hardware prices and PS5 shrinking the SSD back down to 825 GB? How about Game Pass Ultimate at $30 a month now?

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

My thoughts? Consoles are too expensive, companies are more greedy now then they have ever been, and gamers are too entitled. These are games, people. This is a hobby. This is not milk and bread. If they are charging too much, buy something else to entertain you. That's my thoughts on the subject.

The Xbox physical games will get discounted heavily to get them off of shelves, but more and more Xbox first party games aren't getting psychical releases.  PS5 games don't get nearly as discounted as they have in previous console generations.  The current $30 for God of War physical is about as good as it gets for first party games.  Many PS5 games may drop to $40 a year or two later, but we don't see the drop down to $20 anymore that we used to see within a year of a game being out anymore. Switch 1 games would get occasional drops down to that same $30 range on Black Friday.
