Iryna's murderer, Decarlos Brown, claims the "materials" in his body controlled him and made him kill her:

"Whoever was working the materials they lashed out on her. That's all there is to it."

Her father was unable to attend her funeral, due to wartime rules that require all fighting age men to remain and defend the country:

I just don't understand why anyone would do this. I've never once in my life looked at someone and wanted to kill them.

im also willing to bet you dont have a rap sheet that is 20+ items long.

i think the moral of the story is that we need to lock people up who have proven they have no ability or willingness to get along in society because when we dont, then yes, there are people among us who just might look at us and want to kill us.

No, I've never been convicted of a crime. If I did half the stuff this individual did, I'd be in prison for life.

Apparently the suspect's mother had been trying to get him committed to a mental health facility for months, but was told either that they were full, that they could only take him if he volunteered, or that since he wasn't threatening suicide there was nothing they could do:

I wish I had never seen the video, I thought he had punched her a few times and then she slumped over and I didn't understand, it wasn't until I seen the pool of blood that it clicked that she was stabbed. This has affected me greatly, It still pops into my mind and I feel sick for those few moments where she was shocked and confused, they way she reacted is hard to get the head around and the indifference of the other passengers.

Much of American cities needs more law enforcement, like a lot more. I used to think a police state was a bad idea but a temporary one might be what's needed like the push in the early 1900s to rid the country of gangster violence.

This has nothing to do with gangster violence though, it's a failure of the judicial and health care system. Putting a cop in every train car isn't going to prevent mentally ill people suddenly lashing out and the train car cop would have to be nearby to be able to stop it. I haven't seen the video but from what I gather it happened pretty quick.

Do you suggest trains / subway need airport type security for boarding? A cop on every street. Heavy presence at every station.

Israel has by far the most advanced high tech surveillance as well as police / military presence, advises everyone to get armed, checkpoints everywhere in the occupied areas and still can't prevent attacks. Of course the reasons are entirely different there, but a police state doesn't make you safer. Arguably US already has become one since Trump was elected.

Look at the causes, fighting the symptoms doesn't work.

Well yes.

I live and 10th world country and we have tighter security on train station then US even tho we have 2000% less crime then US.

Police officers should be mandatory in all public transportation places, especially in modern day.

100% a racial murder.

I read he even said " i just killed a white woman" not sure if thats true thou.
Noo wonder sites like cnn where silent.

If this whas a black woman the streets would be on fire by riots.

fucking disgusting that a criminal whas sent free a dozens of times and killed a innocent young girl.

it wans't a racial murder.

The guys said he killed here because he though she was 'reading his mind'

The guys clearly has mental issues.

Not everythign is racism.  Not everything is a culture war.

It will usually lead you to the icorrect answer.

The real tradegy here is that once again people aren't being treated for their mental illness.  And the world we live in is very conducive to mental illness.  It feels like a trap.  Instead of choosing to understand what is happening and demanding change, it just gets absorbed by the ignorant culture war.

Isn't there like a video of him, on the train afterwards saying "Yeah! I got that white girl" ?
Might not be racism but sure sounds like she was picked by him because she was white, and sat infront of him.

I don't think he 'picked' anyone. According to reports... he 'believed' that she was inside his head or something off like that.

Don't be surprised when it comes out that he is truely mentally disturbed.  And yes I do consider racism as a mental illness but it is but one of a sea of untreated mental illnesses.  This country doesn't take mental health serious at all because people are actually exploiting these sicknesses to their own advantage.  Usually financial.  Sometimes political and often for grifting.

Its truly sad and a lot of people are getting hurt.

A police state is still a spectacularly bad idea. Once such power is given, it is almost never given up voluntarily. It often takes years of urban warfare to get someone to relinquish that kind of power, and all too often the end result is that the police state continues under a different group of people.

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither." - Benjamin Franklin.

And they never receive that temporary safety, either. Instead, they're exposed to even more danger.
