Forums - Nintendo - I just beated my Personal Record on Super Mario World

I'm still shaking.

I was just speedrunning Super Mario World on my favorite category, 11 Exit Glitchless. Just for fun. Suddenly, it happened: A run where almost everything went better than my previous PB, and I managed to beat the game in 11 minutes and 11 seconds.

It's just 6 seconds better than my previous record, but still a very good run.

I'm still not done. My goal is to one day get a sub 11. Then I'm probably done with this category. The world record is 10:33 by oil_in_water, but this is most likely out of reach for me.

Here's the video! I will submit it to the leaderboard right on.

Impressive!

I'm such a klutz I found it challenging to beat the game even playing at my own pace.

I swear I was better at these games when I was a kid than I am now; back then I managed to beat the likes of Donkey Kong Country 1-3, nowadays I reckon I'd struggle due to worse reflexes and just generally being less tolerant of high difficulty.

Thank you, curl.

To me it's a bit different, Super Mario World was my first game, so I know almost everything from muscle memory. Plus, since the early 2010s, I watch people speedrunning it on Twitch, so I learned most of the tricks.

I watched my run again, and I can see some improvement that can be made:

- In Donut Secret 1, I lost the Koopa shell before reaching the key. It can save a couple seconds.

- In Donut Secret House, I failed to get the P-Speed at the beginning.

- In Star World 2, I could've grabbed the Yoshi baby again at the end to reach the key faster.

- Bowser's Castle... Well, I'm still not sure if door 5 is the best way to go. Somebody told me it's slightly faster, but...

I'll keep trying. I submitted the run.

The leaderboard is here if you wanna check it.

What's wrong with princess peach's face? Did she grow a beard or something?

I used to speed run Mario 1 all the time a long time a go. Never thought to try it on Super Mario World. Impressive time.

11 exits, 11 minutes, 11 seconds... I would probably never want to beat such a pattern, lol

Well done!

Okay I've played through that game a lot of times and that is actually impressive. Congrats!

Thank you! One of the reasons I really like speedrunning is because I always learn new tricks about games that I love.

I want to post here about my new rank in 11 Exit Glitchless, but my run is still in the queue and I'm about to sleep... Maybe will have to wait until tomorrow. Well, I see no reason for it to be rejected, since the quality is Ok and I absolutely never cheated in a run. But they may adjust the final time, like they do to some runs where the speedrunner hits the split button a couple of frames earlier or later.

In short runs where every milisecond counts, they may do the verification, maybe that's why it's taking long.

My current rank is #349th

Never understood why in speed running glitched( cheating) is allowed.

Ow well, gongratz
