Given its hardware power close to PlayStation 4/Pro level. Would a port of RE 9 or its engine be feasible and performant on the system ? Also, do you believe a native release (not cloud) of RE titles on Switch 2 could succeed commercially? Would you buy RE 9 or any modern RE remake on Switch 2 ? I’d love to hear your thoughts. I am pretty sure *some* of the RE games that are missing on Switch will hit Switch 2. Not sure about 9 will be able REMake2 and 3 or RE VII and VIII should be possible.
Why I am sure that RE (and some Monster Hunter) will come to Switch 2? A new console usually gets hit with two types of ports: best-selling games and the most recent ones. The recent ones have an active team that can include the new platform while knowing the details of the game. The best-sellers are most likely to recoup the porting cost on an untested platform.
Well, Capcom is releasing Street Fighter and Kanitsu-Gami. Which are great games, but not Capcoms big sellers and also with 2024 and 2023 releases not super recent. Which is unusual. Both games are running on RE Engine, so other RE Engine games should be possible. This includes the big sellers RE 7+8, which would more likely to recoup porting costs than Street Fighter. And it includes Monster Hunter Wilds, which is also a massive seller.
These seem like more likely choices. That Capcom revelead Street Fighter and Kanitsu-Gami is for me a sign that Capcom is going all-in on Switch 2, they just showed their smaller games first in the Switch 2 direct, there much other stuff is shown. I guess they want a bigger spotlight for their big series, so I guess a later Direct would be the better place to announce or even a dedicated Capcom Direct (they had similar stuff in the past, Monster Hunter Direct).
