Forums - Sales - Nintendo announce Switch 2 sold 3.5 million in its first 4 days, fastest selling Nintendo hardware ever

I mean we could just say it was the best Nintendo launch has had at about anywhere really !

(Maybe except S. America/Brazil ?)

Comparing Switch 1 and Switch 2 launch sales in Brazil isn’t straightforward because the original Switch didn’t even get an official release here until oct 2020. Before that, your only way to buy one was through grey market imports.

The Switch 2 is launching day one here, but it costs ~$800 versus the ~$550 official debut price of the Switch 1. Games costs are very prohibitive too -- ~$80-90 for new releases is just a lot.

To put things in perspective, a PS5 Slim goes on sale frequently for around ~$650, a Switch 1 (LCD Model) is typically ~$360 and the OLED model ~$415.

Despite all of that the Switch 2 is sold out everywhere unless you want to pay scalper prices. When there's restocks they quickly sell out too.

But without knowing how big these stocks and restocks are... yeah there's no way to know how well it's doing here.

That doesn't change the fact that your original post is based on a fallacy.

And believe it or not, not every gamer already owns one of those other platforms.

No kidding.

if the argument here is that there aren’t enough switch exclusives - well, that’s an interesting argument to make if promoting the virtues of ps5 who’s first party titles in 5 years have been almost non existent, same for Xbox.

if anything - exclusives are a strong case to invest in the switch. There are only 3 so far. But the year will have 5/6 grade A first party offerings from Pokémon, DK, Metroid, splatoon raiders (?), etc.

Fast Fusion, Split Fiction, Cyberpunk 2077, Hitman, Kunitsu-gami, Street Fighter 6, Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma, Fantasy Life i...

All of which can be played on other platforms.

1) Now there's penalty for a Nintendo system having multi-platform 3rd party games?

2) That's irrelevant because they are still games that can be played on the Switch 2 system, which defeats the point you were originally trying to make.

Hahaha.

it’s gone from “Nintendo has no third party support”, to “those are all 3rd party games - where are the Nintendo titles?!!”

lol.

That contradiction came fast. Going from "no games" to "it has the sequel to one of the best-selling games of all time."

Its ONE game. lol

If we're being pedantic "gameS" is plural. Mario Kart is just one game. Any other new games on the Switch 2 worthy of purchasing a $450 console for?

Switch 2 only needs that one game to justify the purchase. There's no further explanation needed for its sales, because this is like Grand Theft Auto VI launching exclusively on the PS6 on the same day as the console itself.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

Its always like this.

Nintendo sells out of consoles on launch day - "Nintendo is creating artificial scarcity"

Nintendo has consoles available on launch day - "The console isnt selling"

People will always see the negative side in someone or something they dont like to begin with.

99% of all console games can be "played on another platform", by that logic PS5 has like 3 games after 4 and half years and Xbox has none. Games don't magically cease to exist because they're multiplatform.

Millions of people do not have a PS5 or an Xbox Series and have not played Split Fiction, Cyberpunk, et al, and millions more prefer to play on the go.

And actually, you cannot play Fast Fusion on other platforms.

Definitely not the sentiment here when even Sony own first party games just even have a PS4 version... then suddently PS5 has no games and the generation sucks because of that, even when it does have almost ever game still getting released available on it...

Anyway, yeah, games being elsewhere mean nothing if you can play the games you want in the system you choose.

I mean a lot of people are buying the Switch 2 at launch, because they already know Nintendo will release a ton of first party games for it. Nintendo consoles always get major first party support. If you have an interest in Nintendo games and have the money, it makes sense to get it at launch even if you are not a big fan of Mario Kart, because it guarantees you have a system ready for Bananza and all the other games on its way.
