Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Switch 2 day one buyer discussion thread.

Switch 2 will be...

A success 59 83.10%

A disaster 2 2.82%

Somewhere in the middle. 10 14.08%

Total:71

I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a definition of "success" whose parameters the Switch 2 won't fit into. That said, I don't expect Switch numbers, the industry is seeing much less favorable conditions today than it did back when that released, and there won't be a Covid-19 resurgence in console and electronics sales to offer that extra boost.

Its launch is looking to be huge, by all accounts and in all available regions, next year will be much more telling though. I imagine Nintendo have more waiting in the pipeline to avoid a drought; it's not too long ago that they made that mistake (with the Wii U).

Well, they at least sold one... mine just arrived:

So disaster avoided.

We already have a similar thread, no?

BTW i dont think the Switch 2 will be a failure.

Yeah, I'll turn it into a Switch day one buyer discussion thread with T minus...oh shit, it's launch day... whoah. T-minus less than 24 hours to people wanting a place to talk about their new fancy Switch.

Iterative consoles with BC rarely fail. It will be a huge success I think.

The wii u was one of Nintendo's biggest failures and had fantastic compatibility with wii as it had the same hardware underneath for compatibility. The dual screen element of the wii u I think the original wii gpu is used for the gamepad independent graphics. The tri core powerpc cpu would downclock and operate in single CPU mode for full wii compatibility. You had a much more powerful console that could also do full wii hardware mode without emulation.

It was backwards compatible but it wasn’t iterative. An iterative successor would have been a more powerful Wii that had an emphasis on more advanced motion controls, not a tablet controller.

I’m not necessarily saying such a device would have been a smash hit but the strategy and marketing behind Wii U was absolutely not a continuation of Wii.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

I think it will sell about the same as Switch 1, if not more. The potential is there. It all depends on what Nintendo does with it from 2026 onwards.

(Was the Wii U and 3DS not precisely this?)

3DS was not a failure as it was profitable for Nintendo.

I think it's bizarre when a console that shifts 75~ million units of hardware is oddly perceived as a failure by people. Like... Really bizarre.

WiiU was an iterative update to the Wii.

Both used PowerPC, both used Radeon (ArtX vs AMD however), both had motion controls, both ran Wii games with Wii accessories like the sensor bar etc'.

They even shared similar names.

Mine got delivered today, with my copy of Mario Kart World, unfortunately won't be able to use it until I fly back in 10 days time, Switch 2 plus new PC Graphics hardware? Today was a very expensive day.

I think I will be spending less on Switch 2 games though, I am not interested in Online services, Digital, Codes in a Box or Game Key cards or games which are only a resolution/fps bump over the Switch 1 version, which seems to be the norm during this launch Window.

The Switch 2 is definitely the definition of bigger and better lol. I'm even seeing a lot of posts about Switch 1 games that didn't even receive a patch are now running at 60fps. So it sounds like games are just taking advantage of the better horsepower.

Love how much bigger it is to hold! The first Switch was annoying to hold in long play sessions in handheld.

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind

Love mine. The screen is massive, bright, with great color the device doesn't feel heavy. Massive upgrade from Switch 1. CyberPunk looks amazing (currently running in performance mode). Was able to upload my save file from my gaming PC and continue.

So basically, a Switch Pro.

That is nice to know games without a patch are running better. Makes me more tempted to buy one sooner rather than later.
