Holy shit you like final Fantasy. You're like me with MGS. I'll beat ya though, The game that gets my third place is sekiro at 12 replays but then they jump radically with MGS1 got at least 28+ playthroughs and MGS2 got my 49th playthrough in 2023. It's probably more cause I stopped counting as a teenager and def done a few more replays in my teens of both MGS games.

Final Fantasy is my most favorite IP lol

If we're talking about playthroughs - I would say....my most played games over 30+ years of gaming include...

Pokemon Blue (GB/C) - 20 times, due to transferring pokemon from the game to Stadium on N64 and then restarting the game from the beginning, rinse and repeat lol...I got 20 legit mewtwos in my pokemon stadium save file...

Super Mario World (SNES, GBA, NSO) - the SNES version at least 17 times, GBA version twice and then the NSO version once so 20 times

Final Fantasy VI (SNES, PS1, NS and Mobile remake PC) - the SNES version I played at least 15 times, the PS1 version at least once and the NS and PC one time each as well

Chrono Trigger (SNES, PS1) - the SNES version at least 15 times and the PS1 version once

Nice. Pokemon are long games too I believe so respect. And to Mario, did you ever beat Super Mario Bros 3? Without the rewind feature on NSO but actually beat it? I still try from time to time and even whistling myself to World 8 isn't good enough cause it's so bloody well hard.

As gor Pokemon, I hope they one day make modern version of that series done well with BoTW quality, a full RPG open world and side quests, rags to riches type deal with life sim aspects or even perhaps an MMO type game would be really cool. They seem to just kind fail at making those games for some reasons or another the community complains.

...oh, there is Palworld. 😆

I dont do NG+ in fromsoft games, cause I dont like reestarting and having it all, I like the experience from the start. So I replay them quite a lot from the start. Ive replayed Bloodborne and Elden ring like 10 times each.

Similarly, i tend to replay classic rpgs/jrpgs that have left an impression on me over the year, mostly games of my childhood. I replay Chrono Trigger, Suikoden 2 and FF6 pretty much yearly. Its easier now that theres the FF pixel remasters and the Suikoden remasters as well.

Of more recent games, ive replayed Unicorn Overlord like 5 or 6 times, I just love me some tactical jrpg games and the Ogre Battle format of having squads is - to me - the best mechanic of the genre. I like it more than controlling individual units like you do in Fire Emblem or Tactics Ogre - not that I dislike those games, cause I like them  a lot. In fact ive replayed Tactics Ogre reborn quite a lot as well.

The game i play the most is probably Monster Hunter (Wilds at this point) but since youre never really ever done with it until you decide you are I guess it doesnt count as replaying it.

Having all of this said, its rare that I finish a game and the immediately jump back at it. I usually play something else before I decide to replay an already finished game.

Damn, Univorn Overlord is a long ass gamen I'm playing right now and having legit trouble 15 hours in where they branch paths. Can't figure out hood formations that don't get wrecked so I'm having a hard time coming back to it and getting really into it again like I was. Failing too many fights and the micromanaging characters spells is so confusing, like no way to tell what will be effected unless you alter it and then do a battle, alter too much and then you won't know what or why things are working or failing.

And yes, New Game plus should actually be an extention of the game and legit keep the difficulty curve going like in the Nioh series but with Souls or Sekiro you are completely OP until you start nearing the final boss again and even sometimes then, you might be over leveled for the final boss. I always thought it would be cool to add in modifiers you can switch on or off for NG+, example being random debuffs and buffs or restrictions like getting hit is a fail state or in Sekiro NG+ you can only dodge and parry is removed, mixing them up would be so much fun. So I agree, a Fresh save is always better cause you can just basically speedrun through the game not having to explore for items or kit yourself in anyway... but in a ways that's fun after a long playthrough, feels good to destroy everything that was destroying you.

Switch 2 is gonna give me likely good reasons to replay or continue some of them 😉

Usually, I do not replay mine most of the time, but my top games have at least been played another time in the span of the following years or so.

Metroid Dread though, I replayed instantly with how hooked I was

Yeah, Pokemon Blue actually takes about 20-25 hours , sometimes 30 depending on grinding.

Yes, I've beaten Super Mario Bros 3 without save states/rewind/etc - I've finished it on NES, SNES (Super Mario All Stars) and the GBA versions. I finished the NES version a few times, my cousins had it on their NES, but I used whistles back then to skip levels. But I did a playthrough of without doing that at least once.

All the Mario games I've beaten (Platformer wise, not including RPGs, sports, Kart, etc)

Super Mario Bros. (NES): 80
Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES): 73
Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES): 92
Super Mario World (SNES): 93
Super Mario World (NSO): 94
Super Mario World 2 Yoshi's Island (SNES): 97
Super Mario 64 (N64): 90
Super Mario 64 (NS): 90
Super Mario 64 DS (DS): 86
Super Mario Sunshine (GCN): N/A
Super Mario Galaxy (Wii): 89
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii): 95
Super Mario 3D Land (3DS): 90
Super Mario 3D World (WiiU): 94
Super Mario Odyssey (NS): 98
Super Mario Bros Wonder (NS): 97
Super Mario Land (GB): 63
Super Mario Land 2 Six Golden Coins (GB): 80
Super Mario Bros Deluxe (GBC): 82
Super Mario All Stars (SNES): 100
New Super Mario Bros. (DS): 80
New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii): 90
New Super Mario Bros 2 (3DS): 84
Super Mario Advance (GBA): 76
Super Mario Advance 2 Super Mario World (GBA): 93
Super Mario Advance 3 Yoshi's Island (GBA): 97
Super Mario Advance 4 Super Mario Bros. 3 (GBA): 92
Super Princess Peach (DS): 84

Would love a big budget Pokemon game but the formula they use right now, is enough for them to stay complacent due to how well the games sell. Regardless, I still love the Pokemon games.

I have been playing StarCraft almost daily for 27 years.
Does that count?

Whenever I replay Elden Ring I actually go for every item again because every run is very long anyway, so I might as well. But that game has so many weapon options that it still manages to feel diferent every time.

Yes, that counts and that's bad ass. I wanna be that way with Sekiro and keep reducing my times but I have to give it a few months break in between. Star craft is still the best RTS, by so far it's ridiculous that nothing has surpassed it in such a long period of time, one of the few genres where a modern take hasn't recreated the old mixed with the modern to make something that excells above the old with so many other genres that now have multiple. That, Warcraft 3 and Dungeon Keeper, really need that Divinity OS/Two point hospital/Xcom EU/Baldurs Gate 3/Cities Skylines moment.

You're a better gamer than I. World 8 is just so damn difficult, way too much going on. Did you run through the whole 8 worlds or whistle your way there? I've been told not to whistle and do the body of the game, get good enough to bring as many lives as possible forward but it's such a daunting task.

When I played it the first time, I used the whistles.

My multiple playthroughs on NES , SNES and GBA versions I did every level.

I would end up getting burned out on a game if I did this. Even the ones that I can play a few times a year. Back to back? I'd have to put that bad boy away for like a decade if I did that lol
