Are you screwed if you already bought the game on Switch? I haven't, but I'm curious.

You can upgrade the Switch 1 version apparently for $10, rather than having to buy the whole thing again:

Honestly, considering how massive the difference between Switch and Switch 2 is in this case (loading times, visuals and blocked paths) I'm surprised they are actually offering a 10 dollars upgrade. It's cheaper to just grab the Switch 1 version on the eShop at sale and then upgrade to Switch 2.

I played the demo on an Nintendo event. I can't say anything about it that anyone couldn't already see on the trailers, but it will definitely buy it. But I will wait untill it's get cheaper. Because like vodacixi says. It has been on sale for really cheap prices on other consoles, so I don't expect we have to wait too long untill the prices go down.

Saw this last night and good.

Better than paying full $60.

You can buy on Eshop right now for U$18 and buy the upgrade on launch day for 10 bucks, so you'll have at least one more game to play :)

The port job likely wasn't THAT expensive to begin with since it is based on the current gen versions.

Also considering the news and how the game charts pretty well high on the eshop during sales(like currently, it's at 18 bucks on the Eshop, meaning you can get the whole offering for 28$ !). It is to expected they will likely break over the budget easily.

Edit :

Honestly, this just makes Sega's deal a whole lot worse in comparison ... Again !

Thanks for doing the research for me! Some people out there would grill me for daring to ask a question or to make a joke about something that could be answered by spending time elsewhere on the Internet. I'm glad that you realize that this is a forum where we come for discussion and socialization, not to try turn everything into a dick measuring contest.

That being said, this makes me think twice about acquiring certain Switch games for the rest of the console's lifecycle for fear of buying an inferior version and wind up in a dilemma to decide whether to stick with it or get the improved version on a newer console. Why, it would be like getting a game billed as the total remake of an beloved classic, only for a newer version with an uncommon word in the title to come out on a newer console, and not knowing what to do with it!

Someone's gotta do the research to make up for your lack of effort in doing so :)

Hogwarts for Switch 1 is its own specific version like how there were specific releases of certain games like Sonic Colors on 3DS, Sonic Generations on 3DS, etc

Hogwarts for Switch 2 is basically the exact port of the other console versions.

As for third party titles specifically from SEGA/Atlus , its the main reason why I never buy them day 1 because there's usually a better version of said game that will come out (i.e. Shin Megami Tensei V - > Shin Megami Tensei Vengeance).

Sounds like you should have done more research. ;)

The official channel of Hogwarts Legacy posted a video comparing the Switch 1 x Switch 2 versions of the game.

Oh, I wasn't talking about the efforts behind the port. The obviously ditched the Switch version and scaled down the current gen one.

It's more like... The perception. HL from Switch to Switch 2 is such a massive change that you would think the publisher would feel cocky enough to charge full price for Switch 1 player. It's a welcome surprise that they are doing the most consumer friendly approach xD

I won't be buying unless it's on a proper cart, which is unfortunate.
