Except the sales on PC weren't poor?

If anything the baseline on the PS5 being low means it's very easy for things like PC and Switch 2 ports to meaningfully boost the end LTD run for a game like FF7 Rebirth. That extra 500k+ or whatever they will get from PC + another 500k+ from Switch 2 boosts the overall sales of the game significantly, whereas something like say Witcher 3 on Switch 1 which was successful is still only like 1.15-2 million copies sold against like 50 million copies total.

And I think 500k+ is a bit of a conservative estimate too, Remake and Rebirth ports on Switch 2 in particular will do well in light of there not being a new Zelda game early in the Switch 2's product cycle IMO.

The PC sales were good for XV. Average for VII Remake and poor for both Rebirth and XVI

The results are obvious. PC gamers gave the IP a chance twice, for both the remake of VII and the new mainline entry (XV). But neither resonated with the audiences enough for a second purchase

If the biggest audience in the world on PC couldn't help here I don't see why Nintendo gamers (who in majority already play on PC, Xbox and Playstation too) will make any relevant difference

At best it will recover some Japanese sales but that's all

I can see Remake selling 1+ million on Switch 2 and Rebirth north of 500k at least. Lots of 3rd party late ports sold 1+ million on the Switch 1, no reason to think that won't continue and even increase on Switch 2 ... that would be a big boost to the bottom line LTD of these games.

Nintendo audience tends to skew heavier towards Japanese anime style games too, the PC crowd not so much.

He needs to know that games on Game Key Cards don't really count as part of the Switch 2's library.  Please bring all 3 games with each being fully available on a cartridge.

They can't do that. VII Rebirth is 145 GB on PS5. Even compressed it probably needs a micro SD card of 128 GB which is really expensive

Nintendo went to a extremely expensive media this time, it's N64 all over again

But now they don't have Sony eating them alive with a more affordable option. So they will pass well on their first party games alone, since they are now effectively an A/AA publisher when it comes to production value of their games they will all fit on less expensive Express Cards

The late ports that sell that well (Residente Evil 6, Dark Souls, The Witcher, Hogwarts Legacy, etc) are the ones selling in the range of 10 million+ or even 20 million+ range in other platforms. I don't think it's quite the case here. But we shall see

As stated I'm happy for the multiplat. Too many years reading again and again excuses of how timed exclusivity was killing FF. Now people will understand timed exclusivity was never an issue

Poor PC sales already support this, but now we will confirm with all evidence needed

Except the sales on PC weren't poor?

I think he means poor relative to other successful PC releases. Of course it banks SE profit but it's not the sort of sales difference which makes a game like FFVII Rebirth go from a big sales disappointment to a big success. The optics around FFs decline focused a lot of exclusivity as opposed to the actual content of the games themselves. I think the point being made, is that a wider release across platforms will shift this conversation.

I think Remake will do great  on Switch 2 (1.5m), I think Rebirth will see a huge drop off just as it saw on Playstation. Fundamentally the audience chose not to come back and I don't see that changing drastically on Nintendo's platform.

Yeah. PlayTracker, which offers middle-ground estimates, has Remake at 1.5M and Rebirth at 700k+ on Steam already. The earlier is one of the best-selling FFs on the platform, and the latter is comparable to Clair Obscur at the moment despite a $25 higher pricetag. That's hardly poor.

Sure, dev costs and all, but Sony already moneyhatted them in that regard.

700k for a Game with production value, critical acclaim, marketing and award reception, a famous IP like Rebirth is not only poor, it's a disaster. Being compared to game from unknown 30 people studio like Clair Obscure says all I need to know lol

But guess anything can be consider good as long the expectations are low enough

Another thing is I think a lot of the FF7 audience is not on the PS4/PS5 in Japan anymore. Those 3 million people are still out there, they just don't buy stationary consoles in Japan any longer. People want a portable device, and the Switch is that, these games all would have sold a lot better if the Switch 2 was available when FF7 Remake + Rebirth actually launched, anyone seriously doubt that? Especially in Japan.

I think a lot of the 3rd parties getting in on the Switch 2 early are gonna be nicely rewarded too. Cyberpunk 2077, FF7 Remake, Street Fighter 6, Elden Ring are all going to do well on the system over a long haul and quietly steady sell as the userbase of Switch 2 grows rapidly. The Nintendo 1st/2nd party lineup for 2025 is pretty good but it's spread out and not so loaded as much that there's plenty of room for other publishers to make bank. No Zelda game early is obviously one huge difference from Switch 1, BOTW totally sucked the oxygen out of the room from a lot of games.

I agree with you, I''ll use me with a example. I bought FF XV (standard and Royal) on Ps4 (both physical) and on Steam, FF VII Remake on PS4 (physical) and on Steam, I bought FF VII Rebirth on PS5 (physical) and on Steam, and even i dont like FF XVI too much, I bought on PS5 (physical) and on Steam with all dlcs.

I think low key a lot of games sell quite well on the Switch, even if it's not necessarily showing up huge on like NPD charts.

Like for example the Yakuza team from Sega being stunned at how well the Yakuza port on Switch 1 was selling.

700k+ for Rebirth on Steam alone is quite good too, I could see that happening on Switch 2.

Part III likely being day 1 on Switch 2 + PC along with Playstation (XBox too?) will likely help them significantly.

The series will sell well on Switch 2, and like he said in the video the transaction from Switch 1 for 2 is very good, because Switch 2 have more power and memory, so I think they will provide good ports too and this will encourage peoples to buy the game.

I think the FF VII Remake series will launch on Xbox too, but in my opinion the series will sell very poorly on the console.

That's Square-Enix's own damn fault though. It would be double that on PC alone if they had released these games day and date on Steam rather than crippling the sales potential.

There not being a Switch 2 available earlier is a bit of a tougher break for Square-Enix but that will be rectified for Part III at least.
