Which games do you feel have the best feeling shooting/ranged combat, and what about them makes them feel so good in your opinion?

Never was a fan of shooters myself, but I do like Resistance 2 (ps3) quite a lot.

Focusing on bow is quite fun in Skyrim

I guess I like the Dooms, theyre stupid fun as well.

First games that come to mind are RE4 for Wii, and the bow & arrow combat in either Horizon ZD or in Tomb Raider reboots (PC versions so M&KB)

NES, SNES and Genesis Contra games. Gunstar Heros with the runner-up.

Recently I finished Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and I enjoyed it quite a lot.

But I think my favorite shooter is the Borderlands series. I love how it mixes shooting with RPG. Hitting a critical shot feels really good.

Among the games I've played, it's probably between the original Doom games (shooting in them just works) and F.E.A.R. F.E.A.R. also has great AI, so combat gameplay in general is great in that game. I imagine there are games with more satisfying shooting gameplay as well, but those are probably my top two. On the other hand, I didn't really like shooting in the 2016 Doom game, largely because it's constantly disrupted by glory kills which I don't even like (and gameplay in general is harmed by constantly being locked in 'arenas', but that's technically unrelated to the shooting mechanic albeit it's closely related).

If we switch the word 'satisfying' for 'fun' or something similar, I might also mention the Ratchet & Clank games. They don't necessarily feel all that satisfying for the shooting part, but using those weapons is still great fun.

I liked Hogan's Alley a lot back in the day.  I also like Link's Crossbow Training.  I need to try more Wii shooters.  I vastly prefer using something that feels like a gun over a FPS game.

Destiny, nothing will ever top that outside if VR, best shooting I've tried was in Blood and Truth on PSVR.

Dunno about best over all, but with Gears in the news I'm reminded of just how satisfying popping heads was in that game.

Anything with the Quake III engine is most satisfying as far as shooter gameplay goes. Those have a way of fluidity, smoothness, quickness and simplicity that just clicks.

I’ll nominate the original Call of Duty to name a game.
