It changes every now and then. I used to play almost exclusively on Nintendo consoles when I was a kid. Then came the Nintendo DS and I wasn't into the idea of two screens and all. I just wanted a beefier GBA. I got just that with the PSP which sucked me into the Sony cosmos. I later got a PS3 and largely ignored the Wii, same as WiiU. Of course I got myself a PS4, but that console was kinda boring to me. The games just weren't as exciting to me as the ones from the PS3 era. So I got myself a Switch and loved it. Ever since then, I mainly play on PlayStation and Nintendo platforms, but I don't track for how long. All I can say is that the PS5 was collecting dust for a year or two, but I'm kinda rediscovering it at the moment.

Whatever, I also had phases when I was almost exclusively playing on PC. Like in 2006 when I got myself al Pentium D805 and overclocked the living shit out of that thing. Together with a Geforce 9800GT and a 22" monitor with a resolution of 1680x1050 I felt so privileged. But there is always the time when Windows sucks any fun out of the games because some shit just refuses to work. I mean I can get it to work, my IT skills are pretty solid. But I don't want to spend time with such nonsense, so I just return to consoles. The last PC I built was in 2021. Ryzen 5600X, 64 GB Ram, Geforce RTX 3070, all in an ITX case with a well thought cooling system so that you cannot hear the system even under load. I spent 200 bucks just for the PSU. It is totally overpowered, but that just means that the fan never activates itself. Which isn't a problem because I got three fans in the case. Big fans running at low speeds.

Then there are of course the PC handheld. I got a Steam Deck and a Legion Go. So what can I say, I play anywhere, I don't care too much about the platform. the only thing I'm not playing on is Xbox. Because the consoles are just so boring and the Xbox App is a friggin' nightmare. I bought Flight Simulator there for my son, because he really wanted to play it. Then someday the game just refused to work. Even Microsoft couldn't help me with it. The only solution was to wipe the system. Did that and a few weeks later the same error occured. So I just bought the game on Steam. Works like a charm. Even though for some reason the game has to be running and put the GPU under heavy load just for updates. And the updates take forever. Seriously, how incompetent is Microsoft? =P

Sorry, I got kinda carried away I guess. =D

Hook that PC up behind your TV and pair the DualSense with it. The apps do the work for most games with the controller buttons unless they are very indie or a strategy game. You can use the pad on the Dualsense then to navigate to steam and it becomes a steam box. Settings all automate to your system these days so it's basically a PS5 pro you have there but just waiting for the games to spill over.

Retro mostly.

So. Sega and Atari, Panasonic... Surely you'd NES or PS1 a chunk of the time? No...

Mostly Retro/Indie PC gamer with some Nintendo on the side, probably some 80/20 percentage split.

An since it's more retro, I play more on GOG than on Steam most of the time.

I was not expecting this, I thought it would be 60 and 70 percent Nintendo on this site, only a third is very surprising. Gonna try and keep this thread bumped for a bit to see if more data comes in.

I told you it wasn't overwhelmingly Nintendo fans. The reason so much of the discussion on VGChartz right now is around Nintendo is cos they just showed off their new console, so naturally that's the hot topic of the moment.

Personally, I was surprised the PC crowd is so heavily represented, but then I don't visit the PC forum often so it makes sense I'd be out of touch with that aspect of the site.

I find it so strange that Zelda won that poll with this distribution. I mean it does go back the longest and it includes OoT which wins nearly every poll even if it were polling the best use of the colour green in a video game or something stupid. It's not baffling but surprising for it to dominate amongst those franchise so heavily.

It fluctuates heavily depending on what I'm playing, as I have a tendency to stick with one single-player game at a time until I beat it. I've been mostly playing on PS5 for the past month or so as that's the platform I got RE4 Remake for and I'm trying to make at least some progress towards the platinum. Before that I was playing mostly on Xbox working on Jedi Survivor. Before that I was on PS5 playing through Horizon Zero Dawn for a second time because of the remaster. And before that I was on Xbox playing Doom Eternal, and the first two classic Doom games before that. And before that was FF7 Rebirth on PS5. And before that was Super Mario Wonder.

But in the aggregate, I'd say I probably spend a plurality if not slight majority of my time playing on Xbox. I always find myself going back to Halo, with the occasional Perfect Dark, and even a bit of COD multiplayer with a friend of mine as of late.

In accordance to the VGC forum rules, §8.5, I hereby exercise my right to demand to be left alone regarding the subject of the effects of the pandemic on video game sales (i.e., "COVID bump").

I'm probably playing more on emulators than PC or actual console games. Though that has lately been because I got a "new" PC last year to run certain things (having lived with previous computer almost a decade and even then got that used).

I did a calculation. Of all games I've played - in amount of games, not considering hours - it's about:

53% PC
3% PS2
2% SMS

18% Sega emulated
12% Nintendo emulated
4% Sony emulated
8% other emulated (mostly arcade, some Wonderswan)
