It's nearly there already. This is madness. Game might be a 10 million seller yet. Being pessimistic at 45 euro price with disvounts, on game sales alone and not game pass they've made 105 million profit but likely way more. They can now budget their next title at Ubisoft level.

If you're referring to the 3.5M number for FF16 for the target than that number was misquoted and inaccurate. The analyst already apologized for his estimate. SE never confirmed the 3.5M number at all that he reported. The only thing SE has ever said was the initial 3M after 4 days announcement back at launch. So FF16 is definitely way past this number. How much?  That remains to be seen but Clair Obscur is not nearly there yet. Some more information is needed to access that.

Analyst apologises for mistakenly claiming Final Fantasy 16 sold 3.5m copies : r/CharacterActionGames

I was referring to 4million which seem to be an accurate estimation before PC and we know it did not do well there. It's def gonna outsell it anyway even if it's at 6 million or 7 or 8 which is highly doubt able for FF16 or even if it got there with Switch 2 by some miracle. Clair Obscur will have legs and legs and has so many bumps to come, the Awards bump, Holidays bump, the film release bump. The future is looking bright but not for FF16. You cal tell by PS trophy data alone that, that game just stalled completely with zero legs. It has seen much discounts since I bought it and the trophies have budged very little. It has a 50% completion rate cause the hard-core bought in and no casuals followed.

Forget about FF16, this thing will outsell all modern "JRPG's" apart from Pokemon and FromSoftware's stuff if you want to count them.

Perhaps Final Fantasy is too anime-esque to grow in popularity (16 isn't, but it has bigger problems). Pokemon is an outlier and a cultural phenomenon.

Idk but I for one was getting tired of the anime trying to be western but only going half way, Metaphor for example and even though Tales of Arise was one of the best games I played last year trying to play Beyond the Dawn after Metaphors incredible localization and now Vlair Obscur proving JRPGs don't need to be lost in translation is tough. While playing with a Japanese dub can really help this out as long as the writing is good. They should go back to being over the top campy or go the full length like CO E33 has done cause this hanging in between is painful. For some strange reason I still want to play a Persona game and finish it, Idk why cause I hate everything about it, the length of the games, the social system, the archaic engines, the teenage life sim, the localization choosing English, the calender being tied to so many actions, the grinding, the trial and error, funnel you down specific weaknesses and counter style turn based system with invulnerable and recoil damage nonsense (or maybe this is SMT, which ever one was used in Metaphor)... the idea of a Persona game, idk, it just feels cosy. I'd really love to see them do a mature version and take from clair Obsvur, a Persona where you hold down a job and have a more serious tone to Japanese life like the drama in Yakuza but allowing for campyness too like thst series.

So that's why they haven't announced the 3 million mark. They were waiting for the magical number.

Given how the game is still popular on Twitch and Youtube, with new videos and playthroughs coming, I still expect this number to grow in the next days. The question is how high can it reach.

Thought I'd bump this. If it's not past it, it's very close but most likely we'll beyond it.

Hard to know with Square's silence about FFXVI sales.

I wouldn't be surprised if E33 has long passed FFVII Rebirth sales at least considering Square has never said a single thing about the games sales. We at least have launch week FFXVI sales lol

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind

Should be past it in unit sales for sure. But revenue wise is a different story.

I think it's pretty safely agreed upon from what I remember researching this, is that it sold and things slowed to a crawl, like 500k over a few months. I think if it made it to 5 million SE would have released that. You can also tell with the Trophy data, this has signs of very low but very interested fan sales like a JRPG or an Atlus game with a 50% completion rate and it 30+ hours long and not some 9.5 game everyone has raved about. It tells me two things, the fans came in and they stuck around and very few casuals joined them.

Regardless, CO E33 has two bumps coming with awards and a film that now automatically has a fan base and a very long life where people yap and recommend it as a game that must be played for years to come. Surely it's going well beyond even the best estimates of FF16, let's say FF16 make 7 million in ut's lifetime which would be way to generous, it's still beating it.

It'll pass that too. Also, remember it has a Game Pass deal so you have to add that and merch which is much more in demand than anything that came out of FF16.
