Forums - Nintendo - Madden NFL 26 base game €80 and deluxe €110

It's like walking alone along a street that is six meters wide and coming across one single pile of dogshit. In theory you could step into the pile, but it's much more likely that you are attentive enough to simply walk around it. Yes, there's still dogshit on the street; you are right about that. But when it's so easy to avoid it, it's not going to be something you'll think about all day long for weeks to come.

I'd have sympathy for complaints if the same people pointed out at the same time how generous of Nintendo it is to bundle a game that is going to sell multi-tens of millions for the low cost of $50/€40 at a time when new games regularly cost $70/€70-80. But that isn't what is happening, hence why 99% of it is fake.

You haven't been on the Switch 2 hate train, so why do you bother sane-washing this behavior. Because of the principle that bullshit is still bullshit even when you can avoid it easily? There are actual problems that hardly get any attention, like lots of third parties choosing game-key cards instead of game cards.

Because you seem to have the belief that this is just going to end at Mario Kart. Which I believe is hopium. By the end of 2026 we'll get another $80 Nintendo title that won't be available in a bundle for a steep discount, and even if it was that'd be no use to the people that had already jumped on the Switch 2. I also expect the release of this first $80 game by Nintendo is going to spur other publishers to do the same. This ain't going to be a one off situation that will just be brushed aside by a bundle. MKW being $80 standalone is bad move for gamers. This is also ignoring that most Nintendo gamers want physical.

For the highest of profile title I think this is also a likely scenario that we do see another 80$ title but there's also a likelyhood that also took place specially for MKW because of the bundle itself containing the game at what is an actual lower price than even most of 1st party games.

Yes, I think it's a real possibility than the increase to 80$ was to subsidize the lower priced edition included in the bundle.

Therefore unless we get the exact scenario you cited. It seems rather unlikely that we are about to get a game with the 80USD pricetag in standalone edition without a cheaper bundle to subsidize it imo.

Rather a genius tactic for digital adoption, even if it completely sucks for physical enjoyers like myself ....

I don't play Madden but I'll never pay 80 euro for a game. It just crosses some sort of threshold. Even Death Steanding 2 and Ghost of Tsushima will wait or I'll get a 69,99 physical copy somewhere. Idk about GTA6, reviews might drop for that and I'll get blinded but outside of that there isn't a game since The Witcher 3 that has been worth 80 euro or more.

Seeing these prices makes me glad for Steam sales and the fact I own a big enough backlog to not need jumping into this nonesense anytime soon.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I said this in another thread but, if key cards are the majority of third party games, I will not be buying a Switch 2 no matter what. I just can't. I refuse.

So far something like 50%+ of all games (nintendo 1st/2nd party, and 3rd party) reported for the Switch 2 are Key Card games.
The vast majority of games that are 3rd party are key card games.

So unless things change in the coming years.... yeah doesn't look like you should, if that is your stance on things.

Can't you buy it simply for first party games like many people have already done. The library for first party only titles is likely to be sizeable anyway, just like the Switch and there's likely to be more 3rd party games available on full physical carts in a few years after the generation started most likely.

Yeah, I could. And the thought crossed my mind. But really, haven't we had to do this since the N64, possibly even the SNES to a small degree? Buying Nintendo consoles for first party while getting third party games on the other systems? We have. At least with home consoles. Shouldn't this not be a problem anymore? Also, back in those days, Nintendo always priced their systems to make room for that sort of thing. But now, they are almost at parity with PS5 so... sigh.

It's just sad all around. My only hope is Nintendo pulls a Microsoft and changes some of these things a year or two from now.

Wasn't expecting games going from 60 USD to 80 with only 5 years

Higher prince entries for single player games with avengers sized campaigns benefit live services with less entry cost and optional (read again OPTIONAL) in game purchases

I'm only paying 70 and 80 on games I think will be playing for many hours. 20-30 hours games I will wait until they get discounted to 40-60 USD range

We were truly nostalgic for pricing of games in 90's obviously+ all the extra bullshit(except for expansions/DLCs) added on top.

Want to know something crazy? I remember PS1 games usually being $40 which was much lower than N64 games. With inflation. Those PS1 games in 2025 would be 80 bucks. However while it wasn't good even then, I think wages with the cost of living are more aligned than they are now.

Yeah but tech prices drop far faster than inflation. That's why tech costs less today vs decades ago when including inflation. Inflation is hopeless against the very quick pace of tech advances.

Of course now we are seeing video game companies get greedy and reverse that trend, with just in a few years game prices having gone from $60 norm to $70-$80 now. It's unfortunate. Games absolutely have no reason to be costing more than $60 these days, except that it lets companies rake in way more profits.
