I love your thread.
You know, I own all PS consoles so far, even a PSP. However, 4 and half years in and I still don't own a PS5, and it looks like I never will. The damn thing is way too big. Besides, 99% of the games catalogue is uninteresting, I am sorry to say that. Only three games are on my watch list so far: Stellar Blade, Final Fantasy XVI and Tekken 8. Way too little for that price.
I can wait.
It is indeed WAY too expensive. But as you said, at least it's got the muscle and specs.
Damn I hate console wars so much. I always have all consoles except this generation (I don't have an Xbox Series because I can play Xbox games on PC).
In my opinion, if you don't have much money, just build a mid PC, that way you can play current generation games from AAA companies, Xbox games and some Sony exclusives. PC has so many options to get some good deals on games, like Steam, Weekly free games from Epic, Humble Choice, bundles from Humble Bundle and Fanatical, etc. You can get some subscriptions too and if you don't have money, you can play new and old games illegally... if you know what I mean.
You can build a cheap mid PC with some Chinese parts from Ali or Teemu, like Xeon CPU, Chinese RAMs, Chinese SSD, a cheap PC case, Chinese AMD GPU or Intel Arc A580 and a good Power Supply.
Reasons why I'm not bothered by Sony's PS5 hardware and software prices: I like playing real videogames and not some generic interactive movies that all look the same.

Last edited by Bandorr - on 14 April 2025The price increases from Nintendo and Sony both suck. There. Leave it at that.

PS5 Digital and Standard really aren't that bad of a price, at least here in the USA. Though it was BS that when the Slim came out Digital got a hike to $450.
PS5 Pro at $700 isn't outrageous in and of itself. The issue is having to pay $80 for a disc drive and despite the power of PS5 Pro most of us are failing to see the benefits. PS4 Pro seemed like a better value back in the day.
PS5 has a mountain of games to choose from, and that's not even including all the PS4 games.

| Sephiran said: Sony knows they can raise the price because unlike Nintendo, PS sales never fluctuate, the same people will always buy the next PS console, Nintendo on the other hand actually fluctuates greatly from one generation to the next when it comes to console sales, showing that ''Nintendo fanboys'' doesn't really exist, while PS is built on having the biggest fanboys that has ever existed in gaming. |
Poor argument.
Nintendo's handhelds are just as stable as Sony's home consoles, and without as much reliance on 3rd party content. Nintendo's hybrids will probably prove even more stable.
Sony's home consoles are consistently at least solid in 1st party games and comfortably the best in 3rd party support (only X360 truly challenged it, and it was expressed in sales and marketshare). This is the primary reason why their consoles don't fluctuate too much, and why the Playstation brand is so strong today.
"Fanboyism" has nothing to do with it. Fanboys of every platform are just a loud minority. Playstation remains a great platform.
