I wouldn't have the money. I mean. I managed a PS5 last year but I had that in the works for quite a while and still that was painful and plenty of games since but they are also becoming painful, if the cost of living increases anymore I wouldn't be able to go for new hardware at all unless it's for a PS6 but if that's the price of a PRO I can't imagine doing even that. It already feels so reckless buying a game at full price, which I did for Black Myth Wu Kong in January and I felt terrible after it that it effected how I felt about the game early on. When I spend anything over 50 euro in one week I feel a little sick and since I like buying games I'd have to go without games for three months to buy hardware at Nintendo Switch 2 prices. Can't do it.

I would! I loved the PSP to bits, it was one of my favorite systems of all time. I usually don't have the time to play Sony's home console AAA games, but the PSP really had an identity of its own. Patapon, Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Final Fantasy IV, Monster Hunter... so many great memories. I'd much prefer another PSP over a home console, but I know this is wishful thinking. I liked the Vita, as well; it just never got good software support.

Also (and I'll repeat this story till the end of time): My first PSP was one of the ill-fated PSP Go models. Back then, going digital only was a bad idea. But I got the device in a fire sales for 99€ and it had ten full-price titles included! You could also get physical editions of PSP Essential titles for just 9.99 €/$ or 7.99 on PSN. It was absolute madness.

Nah I don't mobile game. Why I never bought a Switch. When am I possibly gonna use that when I don't use public transportation

You know Switch is not the same as a phone right? And it can dock.

Yes I'm aware it can hook up to the TV my steam deck could too.  Doesn't look as good for third parties as the PS5 and doesn't have as stable of performance.  If I'm not using the mobility I don't care about the mobile system projecting on a TV

To limit yourself like this. Kinda sad. You're loss on a lot of great stuff.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

I am a multi-system player, not just a Playstation player, but I'll say no. I never took my Switch out of the house and only rarely played it off its dock. So a handheld Playstation, even if it were as powerful as a PS5, would be incredibly unattractive to me. Hard pass.

They need to offer a lower cost and portable system in Japan if they want to ever see big success there. Even the disastrous Vita managed to sell 5.7m in Japan even though it only sold 13m globally and Sony effectively abandoned fully supporting it after 2 years. 80k Yen is just too much for a console (PS5), Nintendo are subsiding the Switch 2 in Japan, releasing it at a much lower cost (50k) for a reason.

The rumoured 15w 3nm AMD powered PS Portable for next-gen may be exactly what is needed to revitalise the brand in Japan and equally give customers around the world another option for PlayStation than the inevitably expensive full PS6 home console.

Absolutely not. I loved the PSP and the Vita was great when it comes to hardware. But Sony just dropped the software support. Seeing how they barely manage to release anything on PS5, I can't imagine them being able to support a mobile system. Plus I'm perfectly fine with the Switch (2) and I don't see how Sony could make anything better than Nintendo.

Portable only ... Nope. The only portable only system I ever spent any amount of time on was the Gameboy. The next portable I bought for myself was a Zelda edition 3DS XL and spent less than 10 hours on it. Nothing wrong with the system just not a mobile gamer.

I do own the Switch and plan to get a Switch 2, but again I have spent less than 10 hours on it in handheld. The only appealing thing about the portable nature of the Switch is that I have docks in multiple rooms. Very occasionally I will snag the Switch and move to a different room. It is nice not to have to hook up power and an HDMI when doing that. I can pick it up and continue playing within about 10 seconds of moving to the other room.

Back then they still needed to develop different software for their mobile and console platforms. That was much too costly, ultimately even for Nintendo.

Nowadays, things are very different. Game engines are much more scalable, and given development costs you can bet that PS6 first and third-party games will still be ported to the PS5 well into the 2030s.

As long as it has enough RAM (learning from the Series S's mistake) it will be very easy to downport stuff into a PS6 portable.

No.

I bought a Vita and was super impressed with the hardware but I also learned that I have very little interest in mobile gaming. I kind of considered the Switch because I have a good deal of downtime at work but I went with a tablet instead and I'm pleased with that. When I had to wait somewhere, I found that I much preferred bringing my Kindle. Sony also made major mistakes with the wrong kinds of games and some bad decisions, like the memory cards. They would really need to prove to the public that they've learned some lessons.

If they go that route, they seriously need to leverage their position with Kadokawa to create more gatcha type games with popular anime/manga IP. The type of stuff that people like to play on their phones, only better, and maybe bring back their Monster Hunter clone.
