They need to offer a lower cost and portable system in Japan if they want to ever see big success there. Even the disastrous Vita managed to sell 5.7m in Japan even though it only sold 13m globally and Sony effectively abandoned fully supporting it after 2 years. 80k Yen is just too much for a console (PS5), Nintendo are subsiding the Switch 2 in Japan, releasing it at a much lower cost (50k) for a reason.
The rumoured 15w 3nm AMD powered PS Portable for next-gen may be exactly what is needed to revitalise the brand in Japan and equally give customers around the world another option for PlayStation than the inevitably expensive full PS6 home console.
