Probably the single most predictable event in the entertainment industry so far this year. It's been one disaster after another, on top of no one asking for this to be made. The focus on live-action remakes in and on itself just shows that Disney have failed to understand the draw and charm of their own animated features to begin with. It's becoming clear that Disney needs new leadership across the board (pun intended), too many mistakes are being made way too often. |
Really, the entire concept of Disney live-action remakes has an uphill battle from the start. Too similar to the old one, and people will complain that it's a pointless cash-grab. Change it to any significant degree, and you'll have people complaining that you're screwing around with a sacred classic.
Ironically, the Disney movies that would benefit most from a live-action remake are the mid-tier ones that had obvious flaws in their original release, such as The Aristocats, The Black Cauldron, or Oliver and Company. But then, Disney probably thought there wouldn't be enough audience interest in seeing those remade seeing how the originals were so... well, mid-tier.
