Oh they can correct course but what has really screwed them above all else is their unwillingness to do first party sales and have rolling sales on the digital store really regularly, sales up all the time. That and their games do not come close to feeling premium enough for the price. I'm not sure they can easily or quickly gain people's trust because of the unwillingness to do good digital sales but over time they can correct anythjng. It's the digital age, nothing is set in stone. They could return from a PS3 moment so much faster than Sony did especially since their games biggest currency is ideas and not money at all, they could be putting out a Mario every two years, A proper Zelda every 3 along with loads of new IP and so on for very little cost, they just aren't but if they fail like the PS3 or Wii U they'll be forced into quick action and you'll see a much better Nintendo in no less than two years.

Hyperbole for sure, but legit... absolutely not.

What part? You don't think Atlus could have multiple flops and come out in two years with two bangers and save their reputation?

Non-Americans paying for a non-American product with prices to offset US taxes is a piss-off. But 450 USD isn’t very expensive, and is on the lower end of at least what I expected the price to be - which I’m on the record estimating at 450-480 USD - or about equal to 285 USD in 2006.

No one who is American should be complaining about this if they’re not protesting Trump. And I don’t mean making posts or signing online petitions. I mean getting out there and protesting, disrupting your society to get your point across.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Metaphor really was that boring, huh?

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

Imagine this scenario. You're a Kyoto-based gaming corporation coming off of a massive success with your home/portable hybrid console with detachable controllers. A lot of hype is surrounding it's successor and so far everything is going well. The hardware is impressive, the games are impressive, even the price of the system is fairly affordable given the power. Everything is going well so far... Except for one problem. The biggest launch title you have, a Kart racer staring an Italian plumber, costs $80. And people don't find out about this until after your big presentation. And given that you haven't really said or shown anything so far to justify this high price tag, people are outraged. Demand on streams to "DROP THE PRICE", accusing you of being "greedy" and "anti-consumer". So your complete and utter failure to properly communicate pricing info to potential customers has now created a massive PR nightmare, and is dampening the hype of your new system.

Point being, how do you think Nintendo can turn this pricing mess around, and do you you think they can turn it around. Those saying Switch 2 will be another Wii U disaster or 3DS blunder. No. Switch 2 can easily be salvaged IMO. All Nintendo has to do is come clean and explain their pricing situation on games, and maybe even walk back pricing on some of them.

Its out of their hands.
Switch 2, is sold at break even point in Japan, ~335$.
Toss in 46% tariffs, and that's 490$ for just the cost of making the unit.
Then there is shipping, storage, stores that sell them wanting to make some profits selling them... ect.

Its out of their control.  The 550$ is likely going to be something american consumers will have to live with.

The game prices? They could just lower it to 70$.
Like lets not kid ourselves, Nintendo did not spend 250-300$ million making Mario Kart World.
Probably a 1/3rd or so of that.

They don't need to sell it at 80$ to make back their money invested on that game.
Plus Mario Kart games sell really well, like they can basically expect 30million copies sold of it.

All Nintendo need to do, is go "price of console is 550$ because of tariffs".
Game is being set at 70$ in the US.... we're eating a small loss to offset tariffs on the game.

PR is turned around.

They're not going to raise the price. They know if they do that then people are going to be even more pissed, and will immediately see them as just using tarrifs as an excuse. Worst comes to worse, they'll the system at a loss. They know they can't have this be another Wii U.

As for Mario Kart. There could be legit reasons for it's price let's be fair. The games' file size was revealed to be 23.5 GB, which means it comes on a 32 GB Game Card, which is more expensive to manufacture. And Switch 2 cards use a faster read technology, so that adds to the cost.

If nothing else, they should reassue people that $70 will be the standard for most games.

What has happened is that the vast majority of gamers on the internet could once again not wait to dissect all information and had to rush to the keyboards or make videos. This widespread recklessness and stupidity is something that no company can solve. Switch 2 is also not launching next week, it's launching in two months. Nintendo is right to let the dust settle a bit, because if they responded immediately, they would convey that they are panicking. Which is what Microsoft did after the Xbox One reveal and made everything just worse. The additional difference is that Microsoft had reasons to panic whereas Nintendo has not.

Let the simpletons dig their own holes.

Fine, but that still doesn't excuse their PR incompetence IMO. Not everything Nintendo does is the result of some brilliant master plan. They can and do fuck up sometimes.

"Disrupting your society to get your point across"

Imagine everybody does this each time something happens someone does not like. Welcome to the civilized world! Simply disrupt society till you get what you want!

We are talking about gaming here, a luxury item. If the price is not worth it for you, don't buy it. It is really very simple.

Extremely so. It had it's moments, started off great with a few sections later in the game where it came back around but boy I would not recommend sticking it out till the end.

I dont know. There are so much misinformation going around. Ive seen several people claim that no Switch 2 cart has a game on it and they are all game key cards. Nintendo keep staying silent and the misinformation just grows by the minute.

Gaming media isn't helping

https://www.eurogamer.net/buying-physical-copies-of-nintendo-switch-2s-upgraded-games-you-should-probably-read-this

With rumors that releases of Switch 2 upgraded versions are still the old cards with a download code, that the next person has to re-buy when selling / loaning your cartridge. Nintendo is entering XOne reveal territory here...

Not just a pricing disaster. At least the WiiU was 100% BC without hoops.

Nintendo silence is the worst thing.

I wouldn't be surprised if the question that the support team member was asked was in regards to the separately available upgrade packs, because retailers will have the ability to sell upgrade packs as a standalone, which is unsurprisingly just a download code. Note how the "Does it play?" account states that there is a Switch 1 card despite the quoted response below making no mention of it.

If it's too expensive, they can drop the price later. Whatever happens, it'll be sold out through to Christmas...

If there are tariffs to pay, that's going to be the same for everything in the USA. Just means more stock for Europe.
