Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Your Switch 1 controllers will work on Switch 2, including on Switch 2 exclusive games

If you already have a Switch 1 Pro controller, you can use it on your Switch 2, even in games exclusive to Switch 2, according to Nintendo:

https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2025/04/nintendo-confirms-switch-controllers-are-compatible-with-switch-2-exclusive-games

They note that there are exceptions if the game requires the use of Switch 2 exclusive controller features such as mouse controls, but otherwise, no need to buy a new Pro controller if you already have one.

Fix the title. 'Excluding' should be 'including'. That's kind of the most important detail.

Don't want people to suddenly have a heart attack when they see it. They're stressed enough apparently.

Whoops lmao, hell of a typo! Dunno where my brain went on that one. Fixed.

Excellent. I have 2 hardly used Pro Controllers.

Excellent.

I got two pro controllers.

Excellent news.

Though, imo I have been using the only one I purchased for 7 years now. I think I'm ready for the new version of it.

Especially, if it has better control sticks(Hall Effect?) and a better D-Pad.

Nice. My Pro Controller still works perfectly, with no stick drift, so that'll save me money... assuming I'll be able to afford the system at all in the face of tariffs. But hey, silver linings and all.

This is awesome news. Sony doesn't let you use DualShock 4 on PS5 games despite many of them not needing the features of DualSense.
This gives me less urgency to buy the Switch 2 Pro Controller.

Yeah I'm getting the new one too, as part of that feeling of a new console for me is having an all new controller to play with.

Still though, this is welcome news.

People who bought 2 or 3 more Pro controllers sure do feel vindicated by this haha.

Returns of the hands-on made it seem like the new Pro controllers is at least just as intuitive as the first controller in hands.

Also can't underestimate the power of the GL-GR buttons now (Hellooo to switching my arts easily in Xenoblade X now).
