Forums - Nintendo - What will Switch 2 big titles for 2025?

I'd rather they wait until next year for a new 3D Mario so that Donkey Kong Bananza can get some momentum.

But how is Donkey Kong going to get momentum when people are whining about prices being too high?

Don't worry, they just gotta announce that they made a new DK Rap for the game's intro and the internet will do the rest for the game's marketing.

While Splatoon Raiders isn't a big title, it shows that Nintendo isn't yet done with stuff for this year. They showed us the launch lineup. I guess they will have a direct close to Bananza's release.

I don't expect any other big release this year but at least a Direct that will show more of the games to come in 2026 and beyond!

After the revival of old dormant series like Metroid Prime and Kirby Air Ride, I suspect Nintendo will resurrect games like F-Zero, Wave Race and Star Fox, but also a new Kid Icarus could do marvels on the Switch 2 hardware. A new Fire Emblem is absolutely granted, but I don't expect any new Kirby or Mario Party games to release for some years, given the upgrades coming to the latest entries. A new 3D main Mario game is given for sure in my opinion, releasing alongside the new movie or following shortly..

As for a new Zelda, surely the team have already started working on the new main game, and I feel Nintendo will fill the gap with a remake like they did on Switch 1... Possible remakes I can think off would be Zelda 1, or better, Zelda 2 for the NES (oldest 2D games), but also Ocarina of Time (oldest 3D one) could be a possibility!

Well... let's be satisfied with this 2025 already full of games and see what the next Direct has in store for us! ;)

You wish. Well, I wish as well. But Metroid Prime and Air Riders are no indication Nintendo is willing to revive dormant IPs.

Metroid Prime is long coming and in long development that started many years ago. I think Nintendo committed themself by announcing it too early and now had even with troubled development to keep going.

Air Raiders is a Sakurai project. The same way he did Kid Icarus before. He has a free pick as Nintendo wants him to keep doing stuff. Air Riders (and Kid Icarus before) are the price Nintendo pays so he keeps doing Smash Bros.

So no, I don't think this is any indication for F-Zero, Wave Race or Star Fox. I am just happy they brought back Rhythm Heaven and Tomodachi Life.

At this point, it's quite probable Nintendo has Pokémon and Metroid as the bigger holiday titles and releases smaller games that are new or even ports/remasters for closer to Black Friday and Christmas.
Mario Kart has become an earth-shattering Nintendo IP which means they don't need a big to massive Switch 2 holiday title this year.
But for the next several years they need at least one big holiday title a year. Some candidates are 3D Mario, Animal Crossing, 3D Zelda, Smash, 2D Mario, or even Pokémon despite Nintendo not owning Pokémon entirely and not normally counting it as their holiday title.

I was wrong in one regard. I dismissed Kirby Air Riders as a smaller side game. After the Direct I now know that is wrong. This is a major release. It probably is on the level of Donkey Kong Bananza in regards of sales potential.

Honestly, I am just waiting on Metroid Prime 4.

I will purchase a Switch 1 copy to let those 7th gen baked details and punchy colours with good contrasts to pop on the OLED display when playing mobile.... And the Switch 2 when I feel like playing it on the TV.
