Forums - Gaming - Sony and Xbox are also upping games to 79,99 euro.

I will...

Not buy games above 70 euro 18 62.07%

Buy games at 80 to 90 or above 7 24.14%

Don't buy games at all 4 13.79%

Total:29

Euro prices have been screwed for a while on PS yeah and I've certainly made my fair share of complaints about that, but from what I can see it seems like Nintendo are now introducing that in on top of the physical increase bumping Mario Kart World to €90. Correct me if I'm wrong though, if not and it's 80 across the board then at least it's more consistent globally for them, but obviously still not great.

Joy, price discourse is going to last an entire month.......fun.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

You must be new to the internet then, when 2K, Sony and others did it, it was arrogant for them.

But now it is cool to do it ?

Where did I say that, not only is it the opposite of cool it's an absolutely horrendous industry wide decision thst will destroy some AAA devs or at least have them bought up by the big winners. There will be massive winners from this but there will be more loosers, more publishers who don't meet sales or revenue targets, who don't show growth for the stock market or only break even and many who loose on titles with expensive budgets and market over a 5 point difference in a Metacritic score or any of the many reasons gamers now use to justify not buying a game and pretend they don't have FOMO like politics inserts or some shit.

Difference between Microsoft/Sony and Nintendo is... Microsoft/Sony games get discounted pretty rapidly.
Nintendo games don't.

Which makes it so much worse.
I love to go "I would like too play this,... but not at that price. I'll wait for a bargin/sale".

With nintendo that won't happend.
Which is why their higher price point, is so much more off putting to me.

I have a Switch, and games for it.
I was hoping I could get like a 399$ Switch 2, and be happy.
Things would just work, I'd put a Switch 1 cartridge into it, and just play it again if I wanted.
They would run and look better ect.  Nope.... I need to pay for upgrade packs ect.
And Switch is 50-100$ more expensive than I thought it would be.
Then new Nintendo games are 80-90$ ontop? .... No.  Mario Kart World isn't doing it for me.

No, PS5 games at 79,99 includes VAT, Nintendo games will be much more.

Cause of VAT, American prices don't have tax attached so you can add like aroubd 10-15% Avergae tax to that 80 or 90 price tag. So with US tax on games they'll be paying something like 86-92 for digital games after tax depending on the state. We are likely looking at games being rounded to €100 in Europe with 23% VAT for Nintendo games. I very much doubt they round so far down from 98 to 90 euro and take thst kind of hit. So €110 for physical games if they go with the same tenner increase for physical. That's nuts.

Great times, and that's before tarrifs which is yhe new buzz word. People are saying this is cause of Tarrifs already and blaming Trump but it isn't this is a Nintendo decision and the 79,99 is a decision by both MS and Sony where I'd almost say they shook hands on it behind closed doors with how it's been rolled out with Death Steandings price being posted on the store St the same time a Forza, Doom and the other MS games, it works out fantastic for them in the shadow of Nintendo.

Not sure about the PS5 digital store but I seen Physical PS5 games here for 109,99 euro (Ragnorok in Argos store) here during Covid when no one could figure out what the prices were supposed to be and everyone was talking about increases and they were all over the place for a while but the market decided on coming back down to 69,99 as standard. This is just another push, it might not work out again. Hopefully that'll happen for the digital stores as they do they maths and realise that people are buying on sale but not at launch and if they reduce the price by ten they'll sell more...  at least I hope, gamers are addicts after all.

Exactly. This is why I'm not going anywhere near Nintendo anymore, even when they do sales they are very slight on first party and sales on third party happen all at once at specific times, the same games end up on the list which creates a choice paralysis. With Sony the sales are varied, they are very often and very deep even on first party games and being a member has sales on stuff constantly, there are no periods at all where there won't be some sort of sale on that someone can take advantage of.

I'll give Nintendo one thing, the discount system with the membership, while it needs to be a bit more generous, it is very smart and rewards people who are deep in the ecosystem but on the other hand it's absolutely useless for people buying 2 or 3 games a year on the platform.

Or perhaps I'm wrong on this. Idk what's happening here are Nintendo actually fucking the Americans but not us Europeans or are European sites estimating. I need more data on pysical prices in Europe, anyone got some with VAT included and making sure VAT is included. Japan seems to get away quite alright too with tax included so maybe it's just the Americans who are getting fucked on this one. Only the console seems to be showing VAT charges.

I usually buy Nintendo games when there is a "buy 2, get 3" sale.

F.e. I bought Super Mario Wonder + Echoes of Wisdom + DKC Returns HD for € 111, so each game for € 37

AAA games have been pretty lacking for the most part this gen, so Ill just buy more indie games and get most of the bigger games I actually want when they are cheaper.

Well that's not too bad I suppose, round the same as a good PSN sale but I just don't understand why they can't mark the games as 37 euro and buy them individually... well, I do, it's about perceived value of the product but still no excuse, first party Sony are seen as premium products and Ragnorok and Forbidden West along with TLOU, Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding, Returnal, Demons Souls and Rachet and Clank have all been "free" on service and some went back up in value on the digital store to 69,99 like Forbideen west and they still sell.
