Which Console Combo Do You Prefer? Retro Edition

Group 1: 5200, NES, Dreamcast 6 18.75%

Group 2: 2600, Virtual Boy, Saturn 0 0%

Group 3: 7800, N64, Genesis 11 34.38%

Group 4: Jaguar, SNES, Master System 15 46.88%

Total:32

Thank you @Veknoid_Outcast for your cool thread pitting the Big 3 against each other. I thought it would be cool to go back in time further and have older Nintendo platforms plus throw Atari and Sega into the mix.

I used a randomizer to get these combos.

There are only a few backwards compatibility compatible consoles here, but BC is not allowed in this situation. Same with the Super Game Boy on SNES. Add-ons are allowed, so keep that in mind for Mega Drive/Genesis and Atari Jaguar in particular.

In order to get 4 platforms from each of these Classic 3 competitors, I needed to have a sloppier generational divide than Veknoid's thread. Virtual Boy is a tabletop platform, but it made more sense to include than Color TV-Game or using GameCube in this thread. Dreamcast is also included in this thread, despite being a 6th Generation console. The short-lived SG-1000 (Sega's first console) didn't make sense to include when we already have 4 Sega consoles.

What combo are you going to pick while the other three are sacrificed?

Option #1
Atari 5200

NES/Famicom

Dreamcast

Option #2
Atari 2600

Virtual Boy

Saturn

Option #3
Atari 7800

Nintendo 64

Mega Drive/Genesis

Option #4
Atari Jaguar

SNES/Super Famicom

Master System

At this rate, someone needs to make a thread about which retro gaming PC combo they prefer between the Apple II, Amiga, Commodore, IBM, ZX, and Atari

I'll take option 3 though just for the N64 and Genesis!

Although with N64 and Saturn here, shouldn't PS1 be listed too? Probably should've had that in Option 2 instead of the Virtual Boy lol

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind

Man I lobe Saturn and SNES so much as they are 3 and 2 behind Dreamcast for me but No 1 because of Dreamcast. 5200 can go in the trash. Sucks to not have Genesis either as man I love it but DC is my main man.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

SNES is the greatest console of all time in my opinion, so it single-handedly makes me go with option 4, even if the Jaguar sucks.

It briefly crossed my mind, but I didn't put it here because

1. It would be the only PlayStation console

2. It would sway many's opinions, adding yet another very popular console to this line up.

It is also the only console in that era to have sold over 70m, and in fact sold over 100m. So really it would just be on whole another level.

As for the thread. I would choose option 4 for the SNES alone. But again if you force me to play all 3 consoles, then I prefer option 1.

Dreamcast has the semi modern games.

NES has great classics.

Atari 5200 had some great games.

I had a lot of fun on my Sega Megadrive back in the day, so I'll go with option 3.

One of the hardest polls I've seen! Well done.

Group 2 is a non-factor to me because I never cared for the 2600 and never experienced Saturn... or VirtualBoy lol. But SNES is godlike, and the two other groups have two consoles I like. The MegaDrive/Genesis is my first owned console and favorite Sega platform. It's basically SNES vs NES/Dreamcast vs MegaDrive/N64 to me.

I'll vote Group 3 because even though SNES is the best system here, I only got a MegaDrive back in the day, and the N64 had a couple of my all time favourite games.

NES and Dream cast. I'd get a console with games I know I love and a console that I never even touched. The Atari would make me look like I'm big into retro gaming further back than the NES and only I know I couldn't give a fiddlers, perhaps I'll read the Manuels for talking points in case I'm quizzed and I can cock a quick sound bite.

I'm tempted to go with the NES and Dreamcast option to play some Dreamcast. I've never played on a Dreamcast.
Still, Nintendo 64 has some good and great games, and I can play the Sonic titles and some others on Genesis. 7800 is just a little guy that rounds out the choice.
Group 2 is brought down mostly by Virtual Boy, because I'm sure I probably wouldn't be able to play it more than 15 minutes at a time and Wario Land is probably one of the few games worth playing.
SNES carries Group 4 hard.
So I'm going with Group 3 that has Genesis and N64.
