Which decade was better..

The 80's 1 5.26%

The 90's 16 84.21%

I love both of the above equally. 2 10.53%

Total:19

Wow. I was not expecting the 90's to win that poll. I agree with it of course but people generally choose the 80's cause of the colour and the warmer nostalgia factor that can get you even if you didn't experience the decade.

The 90s are probably the last decade where the game industry continued steadily upwards, at least in the eyes of the users here. You went from FF1 at the beginning of the decade, at least in the West, to FF6 with its brilliant sprite graphics and orchestral sound, to FF9, which was all of that, only in 3D. You went from Zelda II to Ocarina of Time and Majora's mask. You had Resident Evil and Metal Gear. The SNES and Genesis brought colorful graphics and sound that was pretty close to real-life music. The PC ended the decade with Baldur's Gate and Fallout, among other games. After the PS2 generation is when things started being introduced that were not as well-liked, like shady monetization schemes, corporate consolidation, microtransactions, and ballooning budgets that meant that a game studio could be shut down if they didn't make millions of first-week sales, and the dominance of just five games-as-a-service platforms (GTA, Fortnite, CoD, Minecraft, and Roblox). Most of all, it's been largely a matter of perceived diminishing returns, though I can definitely tell the difference between a PS5 game and a PS4 game, especially comparing a game in a long-running series on PS5 with its PS4 iteration. Whether you like the way the industry has gone since the end of the PS2 era is up to your own interpretation. There's been bad, and there's been good.

I want to see cozy games go to the next level. There are so many players out there that love crafting and exploring but find combat a bit stressful. I’m not one of those players, but I know the cozy genre could really use a “Breath of the Wild” moment. Minecraft is great and all, but what an ugly game. Surely we could see something with the charm of Animal Crossing and the scope of a Breath of the Wild-lite.

I want karts to race in, mountains to climb, caves to explore, but without major enemies or boss battles. I want to have to resource gather to increase my stamina and I want to upgrade shops to have better vehicles or items.

This is a genre that I think is poised for greatness and with just a bit of investment we could be in for a very fun, rewarding time.

That's kind of what Roblox is. Fortnite is moving in that direction, too.

No mans Sky has all that now as well as base building, Multiplayer, spaceship building, terrain manipulation and terraforming and loads more they just keep adding stuff in. Like hundreds or hours of content before you've seen it through. It's also very cosy in its ways, having to shelter from storms or just the UI sounds which are somewhat soothing and it's a game you can play while listening go your favourite cosy podcast to get multiple levels of cosiness going.

If not this, Light No fires will do something similar with m9st of those features at launch and better production value in a more grounded, one planet that's more like Earth kinda way.

We need more original fighting game IP's (2D and 3D). The entire genre is being held by IP's made 20+ years ago.

This, cant really think of any substantial new fighting IP.

I thought Blazblue would have fit but the series has been around for such a long time too.

I wouldn't consider BlazeBlu to be entirely original anyways, but that can be debated.

Got another. Games like Wipout and F Zero that now ho to superhuman speeds with the SSD or can now have sim racing levels of graphics because of the SSD. It makes so much sense and I don't understand why Sony didn't do a AAA Wipeout game to showcase the SSD.

Nah. Shin Megami Tensei and Digimon story games. Cyberseluth and Hackers Memory are especially good. The SMT series is always great. Well, Hackers 2 isn't great. More of you need to play SMTV-V and SMTIII Nocturne and the rest of the series, but the last two are excellent and easily accessible. Why I wasn't a big fan of it due to the pacing. A lot of people like Ni No Kuni.
