No. PS5Pro is part of the 9th gen! As PS4Pro was part of Gen 8. They are just upgrades, no sucessors. There are no exclusives games for it. With the GameBoy (Color) its a different thing: The GBC had exclisives, more power... everything that defines a next gen system. Yet Nintendo decided to lump it together. If Nintendo called the sucessor "Switch Up" and not Switch 2 but with the same power it would also be an upgrade if they said so. But its a sucessor according to them and "2" makes this obvious so its a sucessor (Gen 10). Thats the way it was always seen in general and i agree with that.

So basically in your eyes, the only aspect that constitutes a succesor is just the name? Because its' definitely not the hardware.

Because the hardware in the PS5 is just an updated Playstation 4 in essence. - PS4 and PS5 both use AMD X86-x64, both use AMD Radeon graphics.
Just Sony is using more modern designs in the Playstation 5.

And the Playstation 5 Pro is using a more modern updated (And larger!) chipset that is found in the base Playstation 5.

If it's compatibility, then that's a policy limitation not a developer/hardware one anyway.

The Ram advantage is only in a single aspect. Total capacity.

We don't know how much Ram is available to developers... The Series S is extremely "lean" in that regard.

And the Series S has faster Ram.

If developers have access to at least 10GB which system do you think would be overall better in this regard? Cause the only 8GB available on the Series S is a notable issue but I dunno how much the faster speed could make up for that compared to the Switch 2 having more.

The Series S will have the distinct advantage if both consoles can only access 8GB for developers/games.

You cannot overcome the fillrate differential very easily, especially at higher resolutions.

Either way, the Switch 2.0 is going to be very competent, considering we are literally comparing it to a fixed home console.

I was asking if developers had access to at least 10GB with the Switch 2 but competent is right it seems. After 8 years of the Switch a lot of people are gonna be very happy to finally have PS4 level visuals on a Nintendo platform.

Unfortunately we don't have those "smaller details" on what the Ram allocation is, that will likely happen later.

Switch 1.0 for example had 25% of it's RAM (1GB) allocated for the OS/Background tasks, but that definitely wasn't enough as the OS lacked basic features like voice chat and smooth online store... So I would actually hope Nintendo increases the OS Ram allocation so they have room to breathe to implement a browser, voice/video chat and a smooth running online store.

There are going to be certain scenarios that the Switch will be better at than the Xbox Series S, especially those that can leverage the Tensor cores.
Likewise, the Series S will have some key advantages as well.

Wait and see I guess.

My guess is it'll be 12GB total with 2GB allocated for that. Either way I certainly look forward to the full breakdowns once it releases or perhaps even after the April direct.

Sony's OS uses more Ram than Microsoft, which makes sense considering OS software is what Microsoft should be proficient at, Sony generally works around that by including extra RAM (DDR5 on the PS5 Pro, DDR4 on the PS4)

The Switch OS is based on Android which is fairly memory hungry all things considered... The Switch OS uses a lot of memory for doing so little, keep that in mind.
I would not be shocked if it was 3GB... I would be shocked if it was more than 4GB.

Yeah, should be interesting once we get final details.

What we can say is that the Switch 2 as a handheld it will be PS4 power or slightly ahead. For docked mode i am mixed. Yes 3 TF is less than 4TF but thats not the whole picture. In docked i see it at least on PS4Pro level. But anyway i was expecting a PS4+ level handheld and thats what it will be. I couldn't care less about the dock...

Yeah, the name, the UI, exclusive media and accessories... You know... basically everything that defines a closed platform

Its really not rocket science

We reap what we sow

10th generation.

The Switch is 9th generation. The Switch competed with the PS4 and Xbox One for 3 years and 8 months and now with the PS5 and Xbox Series for 4+ years. 4 and a half years minimum is likely.

Stopped counting.

I would say a generation is just respective to the platform holder. So what No. system is it for Nintendo?

I know some people see it different. Some of them are younger and did not live through the gens. I experienced the NES launch as a small kid. I am sorry but i can't just "mix up" generations. Some people say Switch is Gen 8, i even heard some saying gen 7 because its closer to PS3/ Xbox 360 power than Ps4/ XboxOne but i cannot agree with this. Its just my opinion but console generations should not be defined in power. It was like this in the 80s and 90s as well as in the early 2000s. It was 2006 when this confuzing deffinitions started because of the Wii. I also don't say DC and PS2 would be gen 5.5 only because they are clearly inferior to Gamecube and Xbox. Is the 3DS another generation than the Vita? Or is the DS another generation than the PSP? We should take this into account i think.
