Hopefully it's backwards compatible with the switch, cause i have heaps of game yet to play. I'd buy it day one if there are some enhancement's to switch games. Such as resolution/ frame rates.

lol I'm sad I was right about Nintendo showing the console this year but whatever, we are almost there. I'm just looking forward to the next 3d Mario and hoping for a NS2 version of Metroid Prime 4

It is confirmed to be backwards compatible by Shuntaro Furukawa.
There really does need to be the approach of Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5 where the games are enhanced. The older days of backwards compatibility where all games played the same (at best) needs to be behind us.
Zelda and Xenoblade in particularly would be godsends with higher resolutions and a minimum of a locked 30 FPS, if not some 60 FPS target options or low resolution with 60 FPS locked.

Definitely getting hyped for Switch 2 and to be honest I'm ready for it. I feel like the past year now has felt a bit stale in terms of my hype of Nintendo, mainly cause the Switch 1 has done so well and given me all the games I've always wanted and I don't think Nintendo could suprise me anymore with the current Switch 1 hardware. I want to be blown away again with the new graphics and worlds of Nintendo games like I was when seeing an HD game like Mario Kart 8 for the first time, or even seeing Mario Odyssey for the first time.
Since I started on the Wii U gen in 2013, we've honestly haven't seen a generational leap in graphics/performance in over 10 years now if you started on Wii U which is pretty crazy. Yea the Switch was a pretty big leap over the Wii U too, but it didn't entirely feel like a huge generational leap like going from Wii to Wii U. The Switch to Switch 2 will be a huge leap based on how it performs.
In terms of the games, we are definitely so overdue for a new 3D Mario game as this is easily the biggest 3D Mario gap in history surpassing the previous gap between Mario 64 & Mario Sunshine of 6 years. On Switch we haven't seen a new 3D Mario for over 7 years now which is pretty insane. There was Bowser's Fury but that definetely wasn't a full 3D Mario game and even if you do want to count Bowser's Fury as an independent 3D Mario game, its soon to be 4 years since that released which is about the average amount of time it takes to make a new 3D Mario. This is why I'm expecting a 3D Mario to be a launch title, the timeline seems to be matching up perfectly.
And for this 3D Mario I feel like all signs are pointing towards Nintendo wanting to make the next 3D Mario as open-world as possible, and beyond the open-world scope of even Odyssey, Sunshine, and 64. I expect them to expand upon the concept of Bowser's Fury where you have Mario explore this huge one interconnected world and find different obstacles/missions in different areas of the world, almost like a BOTW but in the form of a 3D Mario where the game is completely non-linear. It seems like Nintendo first wanted to test the waters with the Bowser's Fury idea before jumping all in with their next 3D Mario, and I think Nintendo will try to go in that direction. The direction made Zelda bigger than ever, so they now may wanna test it out with Mario.
Having Mario Kart 9 near launch also makes sense, its legit been over 10 years since the last Mario Kart.
I hope Miis return ;)
Also the new 3D Mario will be legendary , can’t wait !!
It's not gonna happen for another 5 years (at least) but imagine what the next open world Zelda is going to look like on Switch 2...

I can see Metroid Prime 4 being a port or cross-platform game with bumped up performance/graphics in the same vein as Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild. F-Zero I think we're WAY due for at this point. Especially since it would mesh well with a robust online mode and DLC/online service that suits the modern era of gaming and that I think Nintendo will focus on. We're also due for a brand new Smash Bros and Mario Kart.
These are largely pure speculation/hopium on my part but I think at least some have a decent chance of happening, the ones towards the top of the list moreso:
1. Star Fox
2. Splatoon (maybe reworked as more of a hero shooter a la Overwatch or Marvel Rivals?)
3. Mario Maker (with battles, competitions, more fleshed out online multiplayer)
4. A truly seamless, open-world 3D Mario (maybe with a branching world map with many pathways a la Mario World)
5. Gameboy Mario title Remakes
6. "Switch Play" (Wii Play on roids basically - with a variety of new and revamped mini-games, robust online content, timed events, DLC and such)
7. Mario Sunshine (remade to be a lot flashier, more open world, and easier)
8. Animal Crossing MMO
9. Star Tropics
10. Mario RPG 2 (a true Mario RPG SEQUEL collab by Square and Nintendo, not Paper Mario, Mario and Luigi, another revamp, etc)
11. Eternal Darkness (co-op and online gameplay, more open-world)
12. Earthbound
Beyond the Mario Kart, Metroid Prime, F-zero entries I mentioned though, I don't quite know what to expect, but definitely excited and curious to find out. Feature-wise, I can see Switch 2 incorporating more and more advanced AR features - think Pokemon Go on steroids. We'll also get more diverse and dynamic controller options, maybe even some customizable. A much more dynamic online system (finally) but still with safeguards to protect children. I think there will be a lot more of the limited-time "event" freemium and paid content, think Mario Bros 35. I think Nintendo and its 2nd (and possibly some 3rd party exclusives) will be delving more into BR, open-world, and roguelike stuff to tap into current popular genres and popular indie stuff. I don't see Switch 2 being a massive revolution in gaming, more of an evolutionary step. I think Nintendo is going to rely more on online game services/DLC/features and just a flood of 1st, 2nd, 3rd party and indie games to keep the money rolling in and to remain strong in the industry.
Hopefully we'll know a lot more by summer of '25, with a release of Switch 2 of spring '26 (though I can even see them waiting as long as spring '27 and even predicted as much years ago in another topic I'll never be able to dig up :P). I think Nintendo is still holding off b/c the Switch is still selling fairly solid and the shaky economy.

Considering that the timeline from reveal (10/20/2016) to release (3/3/2017) for Switch 1 was four and a half months, I'd expect the same thing to be the case for Switch 2.
Nintendo is going to try and replicate the Switch 1's launch blueprint as much as humanly possible.
That Switch 1 reveal trailer was 6 days before their investors' meeting for that quarter. So, assuming they do the same thing here. That would mean we'd get a reveal 6 days before their next meeting, which is slated for Feb 4, 2025 - That would put the reveal trailer for Jan 29.
And since there was a little more than 19 weeks from the reveal to release - If they were to repeat that here, that would put the Switch 2's release date for Friday, June 13, 2025 (Because Nintendo always releases their new products on Fridays.)
Personally, I'm most likely going to get the system on launch day just like I did with Switch 1 back on that fateful day on March 3rd, 2017 - Bought it at GameStop, got Breath of the Wild with it, took it home, plugged it in, started playing, and have not looked back since. And I'm happy to say that I still have that OG model and it still works perfectly to this day! (Has a little wear and tear on it, but it is still perfectly playable and enjoyable!)
So, it really doesn't make a difference to me when this system comes out because I know I'm getting it regardless. But what I'm REALLY curious about will be the launch lineup.
I'm calling it right now: Metroid Prime 4 is the big launch title. What they did with Breath of the Wild for the Switch 1 and Twilight Princess for the Wii beforehand, they will do here, but only this time with Metroid instead of Zelda.
Now some people might be concerned about basing the launch of their next game around Metroid, an IP that has historically not sold massive numbers and has no proven track record of moving hardware. But in this instance, I think they can get away with it for a multitude of reasons.
1) The Switch 2 itself will be the main draw/sell rather than any individual game released for it. Nintendo has clearly found a long-term winner with the Switch brand and they have built it well enough to where it can sell on its own merit, much like how Sony has built up the PlayStation brand to sell on its own before any individual game. And the audience that is going to be mostly, if not exclusively, buying this system at launch will be the lifelong, dedicated gamers, and diehard Nintendo fans who follow them and are invested in their software far beyond just the standard Mario and Pokemon. These are the people who are VERY much interested in the more niche, "core gamer" IPs in their catalogue, and are very much excited and looking forward to games like Metroid Prime 4.
2) Metroid Prime 4 can serve as the PERFECT tech demo of just how much more powerful the Switch 2 is compared to the Switch 1 and showcase that graphical leap. I think Prime 4 is going to be truly cross-gen. And I'm not talking about how Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild were, where they were primarily developed for their predecessors (GameCube/Wii U) and then ported to their successors (Wii/Switch) - with little to no noticeable upgrades or added bells and whistles. This will mark the first real, honest-to-God, generational leap in hardware Nintendo has made in nearly 13 years! And they HAVE to show that off! Prime 4 is going to showcase just HOW much of a jump we're making. They'll make sure that both versions of the game are perfectly playable and enjoyable. But I'd expect something along the lines of - Switch 1 version: 720-900p/30fps, less textures and lighting, and slightly longer load times; Switch 2 version: 1080-1440p/60fps OR 4k/30fps, more textures, better lighting, faster load times, etc. Prime 4 is going to be the game they use to sell the general audience on the power of the system.
3) They're going to try and push the hell out of Prime 4 almost as much as the Switch 2 itself because they want that "Switch effect" to take hold of Metroid just like it did for Zelda, Mario, Splatoon, Kirby, Fire Emblem, and countless other Nintendo IPs that have experienced and they want Metroid to reach that next plateau of sales/popularity. And their plan to do that will be to market Prime 4 as the first big killer app for Switch 2. And if Prime 4 delivers on the gameplay front and proves to be of the same level of quality as the first three Prime games, it will absolutely be that killer app! I, just like the rest of you, expect the next 3D Mario and Mario Kart right around the corner for Switch 2's 1st year. In fact, I think those two games are going to be the games that drive the Switch 2's first holiday season and we're gonna get them back-to-back, just like we got Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 back-to-back for the 3DS' first holiday season in 2011. But they're gonna try to ensure Metroid Prime 4 gets its own window and time to shine much like how Breath of the Wild got it just 2 months before Mario Kart 8 Deluxe came out.
As for the rest of the launch lineup besides Prime 4, I'd expect something along the lines of:
- Another dumb, silly party game like 1-2-Switch.
- Other crossgen releases on various Switch games (Xenoblade X:DE, etc.)
- Indies! Indies everywhere!
- A MUCH more diverse and robust 3rd party selection of games than what Switch 1 had at launch. Including some high-profile 8th and 9th gen games that, much like Prime 4, will serve as tech demos of how much more powerful Switch 2 is (FFVII Remake+Rebirth, RDR2, Elden Ring, etc.)
That's just off the top of my head.
