Breath of the Wild is so over rated it's painful.

LegitHyperbole, this might just be the worst take i have seen on this site (other than that one HP thread abt NSW being a handheld or wtvr he was arguing). If anything, Breath of the Wild is so underrated it’s painful! Can’t think of a single game where you’re given such an insane amount of liberty over such a massive region, all while delivering such a polished experience.

I get it if you don’t like open world games, then BotW might not be for you…but you claim The Witcher 3 is one of your favorite games of all time? Ig maybe you just aren’t a fan of exploration when it comes to open world? Which I can sympathize with. Games such as Elden Ring are carried heavily by their combat system, less the sense of traversing and understanding this massive world FromSoft provides.

MK8 for me, top of the list, its the game ive enjoyed the most, its the game ive played the most and for my money its the best MK ever.
BOTW is obviously up there as well, its goated.
I personally enjoyed Bayo 2 and Xeno Chronicles X quite a lot.
Tropical Freeze and 3D World are also pretty decent and enjoyable.
I did not care one bit for Splatoon.

Hmmm ... You know this is difficult because the debate could honestly end right away with selecting BOTW. But in comparison to the Switch version, it's technical performance are a bit ouchy ouchy.

So my vote goes for Xenoblade X. It's Monolith Soft first foray into open worlds and they made one of the best one on their first try and the cheating wizardry they managed to get it running nicely on the console is commandable too.

Thank goodness though we're getting that remaster on because it has some pretty horrid UI, texts elements ...

Easily Breath of the Wild. Easily.

I say, Elden Ring done what Breath of the Wild was going for better but I understand Breath of the Wild, the feeling of sparseness and exploration, like you said, is great buuuut, it's just not a great game, imo and I luch prefer the OoT formula for Zelda. I mean, some of the stuff is really well done, I'll give it that and it's not a bad game. Just for me personally, I waited a year to play it after release and, even though I understand it, I can't see the hype. Some stuff is actually awful like the maze forest, the massive grind to increase your hearts and stanima, the food system, the weapon degradation speed, the hige grind everything is as someone who likes to complete everything, the stanima drain speed and link still being mute but people actually trying to bounce a narrative story off of him, which is the reason I won't go near ToTK after watching Zelda try to have a conversation with Link like GTA characters would but him being completely mute, it fills me with cringe that I can't shake.

But, again, I do understand the hype around it, especially if you're playing it as a mobile experience cause it's so perfectly tuned for that and yes TW3 is my favourite game so in turn you could say it is my favourite open world but I don't look at it like that, I'd probably rate BoTW better as an open world experience but if we were ranking just Open World, I'd give Elden Ring the award cause it is such a perfectly designed experience, everything is just the right distance to give a feel of vastness but not to far to create emptiness, the first playthrough is such a joy of an open world experience, it's hard to beat.

Leaving BOTW aside, the choice for me is between Bayonetta 2, Xenoblade Chronicles X, and Super Mario 3D World. The first 2 really opened my eyes to the potential of their genres.

Excluding BOTW - ZombiU. Absolutely loved this game!

Including Breath of the Wild, because OP said so, why “exclude” that game if you actually think that one’s the best? Yeah, it’s Breath of the Wild. Better than all the other games (of which some are quite good in their own regard) put together times two.

For me, it's either Tokio Mirage Sessions #FE or NES Remix. And I'm still bummed the latter still didn't get re-released on the Switch

My reasoning was that it would potentially make the poll a bit less interesting with BotW included. (Everybody's gonna choose BotW...or at least that's what I thought. Looks to be a bit more diverse, though BotW still seems to have swept the poll.) In any case, I'm fine with it being included. Would've been a bit more interesting to see ppl talk abt titles like Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World, MarioKart 8, etc., but instead we've been relogated to "BotW is great!" or "Not BotW b/c it runs poorly on Wii U."
