Breath of the Wild is so over rated it's painful.

LegitHyperbole, this might just be the worst take i have seen on this site (other than that one HP thread abt NSW being a handheld or wtvr he was arguing). If anything, Breath of the Wild is so underrated it’s painful! Can’t think of a single game where you’re given such an insane amount of liberty over such a massive region, all while delivering such a polished experience.

I get it if you don’t like open world games, then BotW might not be for you…but you claim The Witcher 3 is one of your favorite games of all time? Ig maybe you just aren’t a fan of exploration when it comes to open world? Which I can sympathize with. Games such as Elden Ring are carried heavily by their combat system, less the sense of traversing and understanding this massive world FromSoft provides.

I say, Elden Ring done what Breath of the Wild was going for better but I understand Breath of the Wild, the feeling of sparseness and exploration, like you said, is great buuuut, it's just not a great game, imo and I luch prefer the OoT formula for Zelda. I mean, some of the stuff is really well done, I'll give it that and it's not a bad game. Just for me personally, I waited a year to play it after release and, even though I understand it, I can't see the hype. Some stuff is actually awful like the maze forest, the massive grind to increase your hearts and stanima, the food system, the weapon degradation speed, the hige grind everything is as someone who likes to complete everything, the stanima drain speed and link still being mute but people actually trying to bounce a narrative story off of him, which is the reason I won't go near ToTK after watching Zelda try to have a conversation with Link like GTA characters would but him being completely mute, it fills me with cringe that I can't shake.

But, again, I do understand the hype around it, especially if you're playing it as a mobile experience cause it's so perfectly tuned for that and yes TW3 is my favourite game so in turn you could say it is my favourite open world but I don't look at it like that, I'd probably rate BoTW better as an open world experience but if we were ranking just Open World, I'd give Elden Ring the award cause it is such a perfectly designed experience, everything is just the right distance to give a feel of vastness but not to far to create emptiness, the first playthrough is such a joy of an open world experience, it's hard to beat.
