Favorite Console War?

SNES vs. Sega Mega Drive 27 50.00%

Xbox 360 vs. PS3 21 38.89%

While I liked the games from the SNES more, in terms of actual console war, the PS3 era was way more fun. But that's just because as a kid I personally didn't notice much of a fight between SNES and Mega Drive. The numbers on this site say that Sega sold more consoles in europe than Nintendo. But at least in germany, interest in Sega seemed minimal. I still remember seeing a Mega Drive bundle in my local store that was reduced multiple times and still was sitting on the shelf. Nintendo absolutely dominated back in the day, in my sphere of influence at least.

PS3 and X360 were shockingly close and the race really motivated Sony and Microsoft to go great lengths. We were just bombarded with great games left and right, good times. Nowadays we get a fucking loot shooter every now and then and that's it. I kinda miss console wars, I must say.

PS Vita vs Wii U

PS5 vs XBS consoles, because that's when the console war ended

PS3 vs Xbox 360 was a great generation war.

With the DS and PSP rivaling in terms of discussions and then you got the Wii by itself.

It was a great gaming generation overall. Wish I had the money I have now back then.

I find the early 5th generation to be endlessly fascinating.

The baffling ways Nintendo and Sega screwed up and handed the generation to the new kid is indeed a very interesting story.

As I said before 1997 was the point of no return. Sonic X-treme was confirmed cancelled, Sega was already talking about the successor to Saturn, N64 games were expensive, PS1 received the killer apps of Final Fantasy VII and Gran Turismo, and even something smaller like the Dual Analog controller which would be transformed into DualShock in 1998 and the rest is history.

Its hard to judge this and not just base it on game library alone, which to me the SNES era easily sweeps. That console is the goat. So I dunno what else to say.

However at the time I wasnt even aware of "consoles war", or rather it wasnt an important thing to me, so the SNES vs Gensis rivarly got lost on me. And I did not care at all about the "console war" of 360vsPS3, so I guess both options here are bad to me - as far as consoles war go. lmao.

But still, SNES is the GOAT.

I think the 360 vs. PS3 console war was great because both console manufacturers ended up so close that it's hard to determine the true winner. PS3 sold more units, but 360 was in the lead most of the generation and sold more software total.

Personally, I think that generation of videogames was one of the best. Every console from the major manufacturers did well, both portable and home. In addition, both PS Move and Kinect did well despite launching much later in the generation. The only thing that sucks about that generation are most games framerates.

This one is objective... but you need to have experienced both of them to see it and have lived in the US.

The 16-bit war was the video-game war to end all wars. Nothing was like it before, and there will never BE anything like it again. Those two sides (Nintendo and Sega) literally had it out for one another. It was personal. And for us kids, who were thrust into the middle of it, it became a real-life Lord of the Flies. Physical fights were had on playgrounds. It was the real deal.

PS1 vs N64. My side lost, but it was an epic war. By epic I mean we got so many great games from each side. Obviously Sony easily won that round. Still was great.
