Oh wow. High praise for DD2. Good to see other people like it, it certainly is a lot of fun if you just focus on combat but boy does it have... issues. Metaphor though is one that starts out as ten in the first 20 hours and then dives heavily as it goes on becoming a real pain in the ass to stay engaged, it's painful to get through after the half way mark and if you don't do the side content the last section of the game is unbelievably difficult, even if you do everything it's tough. I really recommend creating a save before the final dungeon you can return to if you need to grind.

I beated

Spoiler!
Margareth on Persona 4 Golden

so i'm really confident with the difficult of the game.

Nice one. Just thought I'd give ya heads up.

1. Balatro 10/10
2. Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth 9/10
3. Prince Of Persia: The lost Crown 8/10
4. Astro Bot 8/10
5. Mario & Luigi: Brothership 8/10

To OP: How is Stellar Blade released this year and not released this year at the same time...?

If you love Price of Persia may I suggest Nine sols. It's a lot harder but it's fucking awesome.

I will look into it. You didnt answer my question though.

From the current year:

1. Unicorn Overlord - 10/10

2. Elden Ring SOTE - 10/10

3. FF7 Rebirth/Astro Bot - 8.5/10

4. Stellar Blade - 8/10

5. Dragon Age Veilguard - 7.5/10

Honorary mentions: Eiyuden Chronicles, Dragons Dogma 2 and Granblue Fantasy Relink, all 3 of which are 7/10~ish to me.

About to start Metaphor ReFantazio, and YsX after that one, so ive no opinion on them yet.

Nice. I'm downloading Univorn Overlord now since it went on sale. Gonna see what all the fuss is about. 7 outta 10 seems fair for DD2. I'm surprised to see Dragon Age on people's lists, I suppose I'm ignoring Stellar blades meh writing and narrative presentation too. The combat in DAVG must be exceptional if it can hold the game up with it's terrible narrative, dialogue, characters and the child like tone.

I hope you like Unicorn Overlord. The story is VERY simple and not really deep, but the gameplay is fantastic imo. Its my personal favorite type of gameplay as far as tactical rpgs go, but yeah its a pretty niche genre.

The thing with DAVG is that I dont really think it has terrible narrative, but sure, its just not nearly as good as other entires, but that doesnt mean its terrible. Or rather than "Not as good" its just way more sanitized. Id say the previous games felt pretty adult-oriented, this one seems more teen-oriented, and much more self-contained, clearly they tried to appeal to a broader audience and lost a lot of the identity of the franchise in the process. Fans of the series like myself will notice and will not like the tone shift (obviously).  Its more cartoonish for sure - but having all that said, I wouldnt say its flat out terrible compared to your average RPG videogame.

I guess what really stings is that we waited what? 10 years for another Dragon Age? So we all hoped for something diferent I guess.

1. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door: A very simple remake but welcome. 10/10
2. Persona 3 Reload: It improved P3. 10/10.
3. Astro Bot: A welcome delight. 10/10
4. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth - Some amazing stuff but some baffling story decisions and too minigame heavy. 9/10
5. Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition - A fun little distraction. 7/10
Honorable mention to the Hidden Cat games but some of those were already on Windows the last two years before coming to console this year.
2024 games I plan on playing when they're cheaper
1. Stellar Blade: I enjoyed the demo.
2. Star Wars Outlaws
3. Princess Peach Showtime: I enjoyed the demo

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

2024 was B tier

Many great games, but not a single one that hit me in that spot that makes me think "This is how good a game can be"

My top 5

1) Metaphor: Refantazio
2) Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
3) Astrobot
4) Persona 3 Reload
5) Silent Hill 2

Need to Shadows of Erdtree. Stellar DLC, the best I ever played but alas it's still a DLC so B-tier it is
