Forums - Sales Discussion - Oliver Darko - UK Black OPs 6 sales breakdown

Will Gamepass subscriptions jump enough to offset sales losses?

Yes 6 40.00%

No 9 60.00%

Total:15

https://x.com/oliver_drk/status/1853488606083449253

Call Of Duty Black Ops 6 sold 15% less units than Modern Warfare 3 (2023) and 46% less than Modern Warfare (2022). Impacted by Game Pass!

Year-over-year:

PS5 +30%
PC -18%
Xbox -67%

PS5 accounts for 70%, PC 16%, Xbox 10% and PS4 4%.

Notable stuff about this:
PlayStation is almost 75% of all Call of Duty sales.
Xbox sales of Call of Duty are down by almost 70%.

Now the question becomes.... Do you think the gain in subscriptions from gamepass, are worth the ~70% drop in sales xbox side?

Like are MS or Xbox losing/leaving money on the table by having it in gamepass?
Remember UK is the most "pro xbox" country in europe....  Its likely like this (or worse) in most other parts of the world, outsides the USA.

Supposedly this is how it breaks down in numbers (In the UK).

This is why what was tweeted out was "#1 in players, hours spent, matches played."
It wasn't about revenue or sales numbers.

Because game-pass allowed more people to play.... while it came at the cost of sales.
(don't get me wrong, COD is a monster, it will still sell millions and millions, and earn a sh*t ton)

Yes!. I thought about reposting these figure but I can't make sense of them compared to MW 2 and MW3.
I also figured out what Activision are doing to the PS5 bundling these games together with no Platinum, they want to get in the most played section, in the top 3 on people's PS5 profile. Smart.

It feels a bit hard to believe PC is that low, it used to be multiple times bigger there than on console where I live, but it does seem like people are more down with FPS on consoles in the US and UK I suppose.

Well The ps4 sales are drastically down also so it's hard to tell what this actually means for game pass. We need game pass numbers. The fact that PS5 sales are up 30% despite game pass having it for free suggests systems ecosystems are the most important factor.

I'd say that my take is in denmark, its very much so a console game first.
Like I know 5 consoles guys vs 1 pc, that would get this.
The same is true for something like GTA.

Hmm guess we're in different circles then, I don't know anyone that got it for console and back when I played the series everyone was playing on PC. That was back in the original MW days though.

Whats crazy is that Sony saved on not having to do the Marketing deal, to get CoD marketing.
Then somehow, it's still up +30% in sales.
And they account for like 75% of the total sales.

Meanwhile I think, the Xbox CoD sales are lower than even they expected.
Gamepass is going to have to pull off a small miracle for this not to be a huge loss in terms of profits.
(that said, who cares? its still hellva profitable, even if you probably have investors looking at this, going "huh?".)

This is retail only, not much use in dissecting the sales until the digital is accounted for.

The guys linked said it included digital.
But remember this is only the UK (and its first week sales).
There is still rest of the world, USA, rest of europe ect.

Edit:

Yes this is with Digital included.  Its mentioned both in Neogaf threads and Resetera ones.
Xbox (series s/x, one s/x, ect) are just 10% of sales.
While PS5 is 70% and PS4 4%. (74%)

Why are Xbox sales that low? Gamepass.
Alot of people on xbox side, that would buy Call of Duty, are already subscribed and thus, can play it through there without having to buy it.
Probably also why PC is slightly down, people that would buy it to play the campaign, instead get a month subscription of gamepass.
