True.  It isn't like Bayo 2, DK TF, Mario 3D, Pikmin 3, Super Mario Wii-U, Skyward Sword, Prime HD, etc have been ported.  Not like Sony at all.

The only game in your list that is on more than two consoles is Metroid Prime.

Didn't realize "more than 2" was a qualifier.

I forgot MK8 as well.

Nintendo has ported plenty if games to the Switch.  So yeah, Sony isn't unique in that regard.  If anything Sony at least offers graphical improvements.

Edit

And Sony offers and upgrade path, usually $10...  Nintendo is a full rebuy.

Why are we back on this Sony shit? GTFO. This was already discussed to death.

I'm not the one who brought it up.  Don't blame me.  I have no idea why it was brought up.

Edit

For the record I think ports are a great idea.  I am very happy for fans.  I hope Nintendo keeps it coming.  WWHD has to happen, I would think.

Even 9 years later, this game still has some of the most epic landscapes in gaming, despite the hardware it was built for being a gen behind even back then.

Really goes to show the value of style and optimization over raw power.

Couldn't agree more. It hasn't been surpassed imo. I'm really looking forward to playing this again.

I think the main difference between PS, Xbox and Nintendo has been that PS and Xbox have continued with iterations, while Nintendo have usually started from scratch every new console generation. I think finally with the Switch Nintendo has found a console concept it can continue with for the long term, meaning full backwards compability from now, no more N64 to Gamecube, Wii U to Switch starting from scratch with new hardware, and with NSO emulation as well i think the goal for Nintendo will be full backwards compability with previous Switch consoles in the future as well as having emulation of every previous Nintendo console eventually on the NSO, thus creating a Nintendo ecosystem that has the entire history of Nintendo console gaming in it.

I think the fact that Nintendo has stated so many time how important they view Nintendo accounts being a part of this thinking, Nintendo accounts being something that easily moves over to a new Nintendo system just makes it much easier for Nintendo to build a more longlasting ecosystem than previously.

Original game was like 23GB. So I wonder if they compress that on Switch or use a 32GB cart.

This game was amazing. My only hope is that they allow you to turn off the flight music. The music is incredible everywhere, but as soon as your skell leaves the ground, you're stuck with the same song over and over again.

Looking at the gif, it's insane it ran as well as it did.

Yeah the crazy thing about XCX on Wii U was not only that it was massive, seamless, and beautiful, but that it managed it all at a rock solid framerate at a time when open world games typically struggled in terms of performance, especially on comparable hardware.

I'd go so far as to say it's still the best looking Xenoblade game, as while 2 and 3 on Switch did use more complex and demanding effects, they did so at the cost of image quality and their environment design wasn't as stunning as X.

Which reminds me. If there was one thing I wish the game had, it would be dynamic audio, like other open world games. While I enjoy the music of classic RPGs, this one is huge, and you might be listening to the same 3 songs for about 14 hours. I hope they have some audio options.

That also reminds me, sometimes the music drowned out the dialogue. Add in singing, and it’s hard to figure out what the characters are even saying. That’s another thing I hope they fix.

But despite its flaws, for me, it’s one of my top tier open world games, ever. The other two being Breath of the Wild and Witcher 3. Perhaps these three games are my favourite Adventure/RPGs of the past 20 years.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

It's not like I want to disagree because I agree in some extents of what you say here, but the clear limitations of the WiiU's ram and the use of laser disc meant a slow-ass transfer of data meaning the moment the game had to load something, you'd also get the craziest pop-ins and lots of textures taking upward of ten seconds to load in correctly.

The optimization is insane considering what they had but some of it's technical aspects were also hanging by a thread probably.

The increase of a draw distance and the absence of obvious pop-ins and the more likely better load times and texture streaming in this new version will certainly help better with keeping the impressivness of the original without the glaring flaws it had.

Don't get me wrong, the cutbacks cutbacks necessary to pull it off are definitely noticeable.

Still though, I'd say the overall results are very impressive given the limitations of the Wii U, particularly in terms of CPU power and memory bandwidth. Most open world games on Wii U and the similarly powerful PS3/360 were much smaller, couldn't be traversed as quickly, and ran way worse.

There is definitely room for improvement on Switch though, yeah, and hopefully they go the extra mile to smooth over some of the original's rough edges and further emphasize its strengths.
