I think the main difference between PS, Xbox and Nintendo has been that PS and Xbox have continued with iterations, while Nintendo have usually started from scratch every new console generation. I think finally with the Switch Nintendo has found a console concept it can continue with for the long term, meaning full backwards compability from now, no more N64 to Gamecube, Wii U to Switch starting from scratch with new hardware, and with NSO emulation as well i think the goal for Nintendo will be full backwards compability with previous Switch consoles in the future as well as having emulation of every previous Nintendo console eventually on the NSO, thus creating a Nintendo ecosystem that has the entire history of Nintendo console gaming in it.

I think the fact that Nintendo has stated so many time how important they view Nintendo accounts being a part of this thinking, Nintendo accounts being something that easily moves over to a new Nintendo system just makes it much easier for Nintendo to build a more longlasting ecosystem than previously.
