Forums - Sales Discussion - Famitsu Sales: Week 2, 2024 (Jan 08 - Jan 14)

The more time pass, the more chatter there will be about Switch 2. Switch will slowly decline and with the price rumors, i doubt Nintendo will keep the Switch around much after the successor. They don't seem to want to cater to a low low price demographic they used to target with 2DS, Wii, etc. They kept the 3DS around bc it was different from the Switch but i do suspect they will be more similar.

So i do think PS5 will outsell the Switch overall. It will be a closely led race by the Switch but PS5 will take over in the fall.

Software and hardware sales are descending down to near normal levels. Does anyone know if Spider-Man 2 is bundled with the PS5?

Last week's thread: Famitsu Sales: Week 1, 2024 (Jan 01 - Jan 07) (vgchartz.com)

Last year It was week 1 and 2 that were given together so there is a mistake on the Xbox series Last YTD. It has week 1 and 2 plus week 3. It should just be week 1 and 2. See my chart for comparison.

Edit: in my chart 869 and 870 are separated numbers so  you took 1739 (first number we got from Famitsu)  and add it to week 3 (second number we got). Hope that makes it clear.

This is pretty much emblematic of what I'm expecting from 2024 in Japan (minus the blip for XS).

These are two of the highlights of each weekly thread, so thanks for continuing with them guys.

And given the system being used to compare YTD in the main chart they're even more useful now.

@kenjab I went to Install based that you have as the source and i look through the sales archive there. Now i think the source of the error is because media create and Famitsu are no aligned and MC week 2 is Famitsu 3 (Easy mistake to make as they label by media create) . I also learn that the actual split for 2023 week 1+2 is  1739 ( 1017 + 722 ). Before i had it right down the middle 1739 ( 869 + 870) I have updated my chart to reflect it. Here is the new one.

Well that is interesting. The holiday boost is clearly over, Switch dropping a massive 55% this week, yet PS5 sales only dropped 11%.

So was the PS5's lack of a holiday boost due to supply constraints and not demand? Because otherwise this doesn't really make sense to me. The PS5 is almost selling as well now as it was at Christmas.

Either that, or the boost was just minimal because the consoles mostly being shipped out to China instead of landing with japanese customers. Since China doesn't celebrate Christmas, not much of a boost happened during that period. In fact, the PS5 sold less in any week of december than in November, which is highly unusual.

Gonna be interesting to see if we judge an important increase during the New Lunar Year period because that's China's  big holiday moment.
