Remake, outside a few stupid side quests, I thoguht was excellent. Rebirth is good as well, but too much fluff.

Yeah, lack of narrative focus/momentum too. Although the character development is stronger. Im super curious to see how it holds up on S2 in the open areas. I feel like this is one of the few games that reflect what we might see from some of Nintendo's in-house studios when they develop for the ground up (Zelda/Xenoblade)... Of course I expect higher image quality from Nintendo compared to what we've seen.

Rebirth will be super interesting.  The ps5 version left some things desired in performance mode but on PC i thought it was brilliant, so very curious how it holds up.  The characters and music are great.  The story at times was really good, it just suffers from poor pacing.  I can't wait to see an original Zelda.  Granted I still really want a WWHD port at 1080p 120 fps, still the prettiest game released imho.

I hope, for those who haven't played it, expedition 33 hits the S2.  I'm of the opinion the game is simply the best turn based rpg since the original FF7 on the ps1, it is that good.  I want more people to experience the game and I want the studio to have more than enough money for their next title.

Switch 2

As of the last Direct, Rebirth does look to be shaping up nicely on Switch 2.

There are more notable cutbacks compared to Remake, as a native PS5 title as opposed to an enhanced PS4 title (and an open world game rather than a linear one) but it still looks quite decent from what was shown.

It's 720p upscaled with DLSS, and some minor props have been removed, but it doesn't look like a radically cut down experience.

Xenoblade X and Prime 4 are battery life stars.

Overall, the S2 does what it needs to do.  Games are 1080p in image quality, hitting 60 fps in some cases, locked at 30 fps in others.  For a handheld, that is quite powerful.

Yeah when targeting >30fps image quality does seem 1080p-like*, and when targeting 30fps it usually is somewhere between 1080p-like and 1440p-like (when docked.) The best results we've seen so far have been when the internal resolution essentially hits native 1080p and the game is basically 1080p DLAA at that point. Cyberpunk 2077 does this often (although with the DRS it goes pretty low internally too), Final Fantasy VII Remake hits this constantly, and a few other titles hit these peaks for long periods of time as well. 1080p DLAA feels a lot like 1440p heuristic-based TAA, in terms of motion clarity/sharpness, in my opinion. So a lot of Switch 2 games that are also on PS4 Pro look very similar to the Pro titles in that Pro mainly used TAA and check-boarding from higher inputs, and Switch 2 uses a much superior DLSS from lower inputs, both ending up in about the same place in the end. Similar with Switch 2 handheld and base PS4, albeit with the extra caveat that the smaller screen allows you to forgive even more.

*1080p using a heuristic-based TAA as the typical game setting.

The S2 has good results with DLSS lite.  As DLSS progresses it will only get better, 4.5 in particular is crazy good.  Feels like native rendering is going to die, which is good, saves so many system resources.  If Sony were smart, their ps6 will have stellar upscaling to save power for other graphical processing.

We reap what we sow

Just found this new review (hopefully legit) praising Switch 2 performance in Fallout 4. The port can run 60 fps in performance mode with superior lighting in comparison to last gen versions.

Switch 2 with DLSS is achieving some magical results when the developers are willing to spend more time and resources on game optimization.

I know it's a little thing, but having the dual USB ports is so nice. Was on a 5 hour flight but forgot to charge my Switch 2 overnight and it was at like 10% battery ... no problem. Just put it into table top mode, plugged it in to the airplane seat using the top USB port, no fuss, got in a good several hours on Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade no problemo. It quickly charged to 100% too so I could have used it handheld fairly quickly too if I wanted.

Just using the system sometimes you realize you take it for granted, but it's so convenient to use and the types of games it can run in a portable form factor are really kind of crazy. Like I was playing FF7R as mentioned but I also tried the Yakuza Kiwami 3/Dark Ties demo which is a PS5/XBS only release. Like I had the thought that me from 20 years ago would have just been speechless at a system like this, "kids" today are so lucky they just have this available to them no fuss.

The whole Switch hardware proposition still feels a bit like magic at times, and with Switch 2 you get that feeling again at times when you really put the system through its paces because it runs much higher end games.

Latest footage on Twitter looks tons better then what was shown at the Nintendo direct

Yeah it seems Fallout 4 actually looks and runs much better than I expected, given how bad it looked at this month's Partner Direct.

Bethesda seem to be stepping up their game on Switch 2 between this and the Skyrim update; maybe they were struggling to get their tech running well on the hardware before, but made some big strides just in the last few weeks.
