Well, this one is probably the most clear-cut choice so far. SMB3 is going to win, the only game close to it from this year in my opinion is Mega Man 2. They're also probably the only two from the list that are consistently fun to play to this day, as most games from this period still tend to age quite poorly.

I played Pool of Radiance not too long ago, and it is still extremely fun.  However, I still remember those old D&D rules, and that helps.  In general, all of those old gold box D&D games are still fun if you like turn based tactical combat.

It’s really close for Super Mario Bros 3 and Mega Man 2.

The only other games listed that I played were Madden (pretty fun in the beginning at least) and Altered Beast (I’ll play it every time I buy a Sega compilation for a couple of hours).

No big favorite for me this year, but I'll give it to Pool of Radiance for all the gold box games (I have Pools of Darkness and have also played Champions of Krynn).

I remember playing it a very long time ago for a little bit, and couldn't get into it, but that might have just been because I didn't understand properly how the game worked. It's not like it would be the only game that took more than one try to click with me.

Easiest pick so far.

I picked Megaman 2, but it was a tight one between this game, SMB3 and Wasteland

I don't think I played any of these so I'm going to have to skip this round.

For games on the list, Super Mario Bros. 3, with Mega Man 2 being the runner-up.

For games released in North America in 1988, Super Mario Bros. 2, with Blaster Master and the NES port of Contra being the runners up.

Super Mario Bros. 3 no question, one of my favorite games of all time. Although I didn't play Madden that year, that has to be one of the most important games that year as well. I haven't played Dragon Quest 3 either, but I hear fantastic things, and looking foward to the upcoming HD-2D remake. Other Games Megan Man 2, Altered Beast, and Ninja Gaiden were fantastic as well.
