Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Classic Paper Mario has returned, as a remake.

I wonder what the future holds for the franchise since Intelligent Systems has explicitly stated they don't have any interest in returning to the RPG formula of the original Paper Mario games.

Fair point.

1. They could change their mind. When did they say they weren't interested? 2020? I know that's pretty recent, but it's not like it's today.

2. Nintendo could effectively coerce them and say they need to make another Paper Mario RPG or lose development power for any future Paper Mario games. I'm not justifying that, but I think Nintendo could do that.

3. They could get a different developer involved.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 151 million (was 73, then 96, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 67 million (was 60 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

That is a very good point! It's still Nintendo's IP and if Intelligent Systems doesn't want to make another RPG Paper Mario, then Nintendo will find someone else that will lol.

Hopefully it's something that Intelligent Systems is working on because they've put out 2 WarioWare games and a new Fire Emblem in the past 2 years, so another Paper Mario should be around the corner. If it isn't IS who is working on the remake of TTYD

Imma gonna be honest, I really liked my playthrough of Origami King, charming dialogue, inventive battle system (even if some are mix on that point) which really showed it's strength during the boss fights, had one of the best soundtracks of it's year.

Since then, I looked upon the OG Paper Mario community which try to belittle almost everything that's not core to the first two games which before this remake haven't been revisited in almost 2 decades. I kind feel disdain towards their community and I think Nintendo got too generous with them with that reveal.

Anywoo, if it lines up well during the summer, I might play it, I'm sure it'll be good in all cases.

The first one was amazing, played it at least 5 times.

I remember my first time playing through it, played about 18 hours straight - finished the game in the same weekend.

Anyways, played TTYD back in 2016 and loved it.

I would love a remake/remaster of the first one but that probably wont happen anytime soon since the OG Paper Mario is on N64 NSO.

My least favorite is Super Paper Mario. I like Sticker Star. Im not sure if thats because I was very happy it was not like SPM. Maybe I would feel different if I play it again. Color Splash and Origami King are ok. With the latter being the best of the two.  Theres just so much charm and fun in the first 2 games though. From the story, the characters and the gameplay. I think all Paper Mario games have fun and charming dialogue. I just think it was more fresh with the first two games.

I like the series(minus SPM) and I just prefer the more RPG heavy ones(AKA the first two) I dont think many people are trying to belittle them. They just want what Paper Mario used to be. Its just the battle mechanics and basic characters people usually have problems with.

I assume the community is like our own Lonely_Dolphin who hated hard without ever giving Color Splash and Origami King a chance after Sticker Star. But even in all this irrationality is some truth at its core, because the RPG gameplay of the first two Paper Mario games is giving the turn-based battle systems an actual purpose.

Disdain should be put on hold and only unleashed if said community for some reason decides that paying full price is not something they'll do. This is a Nintendo remaster (or perhaps even a remake, whatever qualifies these days), not some Namco bullshit. So it's improbable that there will be any defensible excuses.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

Welp, we'll certainly have to look at those fiscal results closer because if the remas/ke can't come close to Origami King in terms of sell, I think it'll be obvious that we shall not expect them to go back to the classic formula anytime soon
