And about their 1st party output, they have already announced 8 games and 5 DLCs (for existing games) for this year, so it looks to me that they are working on the issue.

What are these 8 games ?

I only see Hifi Rush, Minecraft Legends, Redfall, Starfield and Forza Horizon, and Minecraft Legends isn't really what would help Xbox's situation (it's like MLB The Show for Sony at this point).

And also Age of Empire II I guess

That depends on your tastes in games. I mean, I can totally see how someone who is a 3rd person action adventure aficionado might look at Sony´s line up and think that it is the greatest thing ever, but not everybody is a 3rd person action adventure aficionado.

And I guess there is no denying that Microsoft games haven't been able to convince as many people to get an Xbox, but when we take a look at PC (A.K.A the only place where Microsoft and Sony's games compete directly with each other) we can see that Microsoft's games tend to do a lot better there (and people play them for a lot longer) so I think the issue is not with the games per se.

The reality is, the average consumer isn't generalizing games like Tchia, Returnal, Stray, Astro's Playroom, Sackboy, & Kena, into third person action adventure titles. They won't ignore upcoming games like Pacific Drive, Humanity, or Goodbye Volcano High because they aren't first party. Sony's blockbuster titles are not preventing PlayStation users from buying Gran Turismo 7 or Octopath Traveller 2.

Microsoft's slight advantage in diversity, which is highly debatable in itself, is not the advantage you think it is lol. Sony adding developers like Bungie, Haven, Firewalk and Firesprite, as well as having XDEV becoming a worldwide presence, will put that argument to rest in a few years, especially with the Activision Blizzard deal falling through. The biggest issue for Xbox going forward, in my opinion, is having very few games that can generate conversation and dominate mindshare like Sony's tentpole single player games, on top of some of their mismanaged studios, lack of major third party deals, and being the only platform skipped for a multiplatform release.

Xbox games tend to do better on PC than PlayStation games because the latter doesn't do day and date. But as we can see, having PC ports of SpiderMan and God of War is beginning to push those IP's into the 30M+ sales territory. Even a live service game like Destiny 2 continues to break their Steam CCU peak with every new expansion. The only game from Xbox portfolio that is currently ahead, to my knowledge, is Halo Infinite, and that may not be the case in a few years, with another expansion and eventual transmedia push down the road.

Nah. This take had been incredibly bad for a long time, and still is. Because it makes it sound like Sony has been given a free pass, when in reality they've put in a lot of work to get to where they are.

Sure, MS botching things, for example, helps. But Sony have continued to invest in their studios, and their game engines. They've continued to cultivate relationships with studios old and new. They've continued to invest in their ecosystem. They've continue to invest in regions of growth. They've continued to work towards releasing blockbuster games on a consistent basis.

Sony also make mistakes. But they wouldn't be where they are now without having put in the work.

It's also a different picture then the one being painted before the current generation systems even launched lol. A lot of people thought this generation would be a lot more competitive.

And it was. Until there were nothing for a whole year.

When you have 7 years to live, you don't waste your full second life doing nothing.

They saw sales trends being better and assumed it will continue like this.

This looks like it’s from that Jeff Grubb podcast comment, which he has already run back because he was called out on it.

I’m sure MS isn’t satisfied with the state of their software lately but hard to say they aren’t happy with where Xbox is.

Xbox will go 3rd party next gen focusing on Cloud. We actually dont need Xbox hardware anymore when they can make more money without losing billions on RnD.

Looking back on history, Sony just reminds me of that one guy in class that literally sits back and waits for others to slip up, then doesn't do the bad things those people in class did to avoid making the same mistakes.

Sony literally entered the market and took everything that made Nintendo market leader at the time and moved them to PS

Always interesting seeing people leave out that minor detail.

The doom and gloom! Gotta throw in everything. Xbox shutting down, Phil being replaced, etc. We are on a roll. Let's keep it going! It's not like they have the best studio situation they have ever had in their history which easily rivals any top publisher while still wanting to acquire studios. Of course lets go off a rumor that Grubby boy himself has already backtracked on.

It's hard to gain marketshare in this industry unless the company you are chasing makes big mistakes, Sony doesn't give MS a whole lot to work with.

In that case, you have to play it like Sega did in the 16-bit wars and take the fight to the body of your opponent and be extremely aggressive. Marketing should be hostile towards them too.

MS is sitting back too much and relying on Game Pass to do everything. They should take the money they were going to sink into Activision and buy exclusives instead with it, games that will be out on the market soon.

A lot of people seem frequently seem to blame Sony for MS's issues, and we have especially seen a lot of this as MS tries to justify the ABK deal. This is a copout to me. Sony's success should be irrelevant to MS's own success. If MS made really good games, then we would be seeing a lot more people interested.

But yes I agree that MS seem to be sitting on their laurels. They can certainly do moneyhatting but this is lukely more expensive for them as they would need to put those exclusives on multiple devices (PC, Xbox) not to mention Gamepass.
