Forums - Sony - PlayStation Nation |OT| Playing Astro Bot on the Horizon Until Dawn

The biggest thing Marathon has going for it regarding it being an extraction shooter is its approachability.

Every big player in the genre is considered a hardcore shooter with a massive learning curve and is very uninviting to new players. I have several buddies who play Tarkov religiously, and they NEVER describe the game as fun. If anything, they'll say they have PTSD The same goes with the likes of Hunt: Showdown.

Marathon having the Bungie name behind it and having an inviting approach to the gameplay loop (at least that's what I'm assuming considering they will have ranked play) as well as having an art style that is very inviting to new players, while the competition is focused more on realistic graphics with a dark/gritty presentation, and Marathon shouldn't really have a problem finding its audience. Especially on console where extraction shooters don't have too big of a presence.

While I do expect the game to be bigger on PC than console considering that's where the overwhelming majority of the genres playerbase is, it wouldn't surprise me if the console playerbase surpasses the PC playerbase just based on the fact that on PC, there will be actual competition to Marathon, unlike on console. Whether Marathon ends up being the winner Bungie needs it to be to avoid a full Sony takeover, we'll have to wait and see.

Got around to finishing the Robocop game. I think if you enjoy the IP you'll have a lot to love here. But it's clear that the production for story segments/ model animation is not that great.

As a FPS I think it's servieable. My favourite part was the thugs being killed lol. The game implements 2 systems into each level (almost):
1. sub objectives, which you can choose to tackle or not.
2. conversation choices which ultimately play a role in the differenent endings certain characters get.

Both are serviable and nothing deep, but it's nice to have. Granted, I got a bit tired of constantly returning to the policy quarters after every mission or so. And the streets of Detroit level is cool once or twice I guess.

The game made me wish we had more killzone though haha. Game is cheap, pick it up, or use PS+.

Robocop is great and if you see it on PC it's oneof the best uses of UE5. A lot of the game feels like Deux Ex. It's a better sequel to Robocop than any movie sequel to Robocop.

I'm not even a fan of Robocop but this adaptation is fantastic!

Sony is raising the price of the digital edition PS5 across europe and some other places.

Yay, let the insanely rich corps hold hands and screw us all at the same time.

This sucks. But at the same time the whole tariff situation is going to screw over everyone for many different products.

I'm not saying that Sony shouldn't be absorbing the costs, but at the same it is really a surprise? I'm honestly more shocked that only the digital version increased in price. But I believe the disc addon decreased in price, so unless you're going digital only, I don't think much has changed.

I think the worst part of this situation is the release date, I don't give a damn about Borderlands but PlayStation has the rights of Borderlands marketing and that means a high probability that Marathon won't get marketing under the PS brand, people can say what they want but PS marketing is one of their strongest points and a reason why a lot of games are actually successful. That is smart and stupid at the same time, it's smart because if both games hit big then Sony has one of their biggest months yet but it's stupid because you are literally competing with yourself, the advantages that Marathon has over Borderlans is the fact that it is a competitive shooter and also the price, two main points when it comes to shooters. We will never know who was the one with the idea, I can see both parties making the decision, Bungie's CEO is what's left of a terrible administration pre acquisition and Sony probably putting a dead line to Bungie to release the game, that deadline being 2025 before GTA6 release. We know Borderlands will have a "healthy" separation from GTA6 release so we know the release window is end of October-November. This is also important because it also means if Sony wants to release something else this year it has to be at end of August max.

I'm pretty sure there's sepculation that Ghost of Yotei is early September too.

Honestly, this just sounds like a Bungie issue: they're allowed to do their own thing but it does seem like Marathon is unaffected by the reeling in Sony did of the team a few months ago. I'd wager that Marathon is really the final thing the team is doing before being fully absorded by SIE, unless Marathon is a massive breakaway success that allows them to prevent that.

That said, I think Marathon looks cool. But I'm also not the target audience for for paying for this sort of content. I haven't even bought Astrobot or FF16 yet, because I need them both to be on deeper discounts, which tells you how and where I'd rather put money if i can get a game.

I see so much Destiny in the new Marathon reveal, in so many different ways, like some have mentioned.

Consul to Ghaul - "Its functions can be controlled and exploited".

Ghaul to Consul - "Yet they believe it to be a God".

Ghaul - "I am immortal......a God!"

Then more recently:

With all the PVP nonsense and backlash in Destiny all this time, I wonder how many might try Marathon? I wonder if Bungie would rather not have Destiny PVE and PVP together since it's always seemed to be a big headache for them trying to balance it.

Marathons art direction is pretty dope though. I really like its style. I haven't spent much time playing extraction shooters though, so don't know if it's something I could get into. I lost a lot of interest in Destiny years ago, besides the core story itself.

They're runners in Marathon? LOL. Or maybe they were runners in Marathon who escaped...

The console is going to be 5 years old this November, there is no excuse, Sony has to have the profit margin to have dropped it long ago, and at the very last keep the price.

About the tariffs, the USA, the whole reason this even a thing, is not being impacted by any of these, which means Sony is clearly screwing over other markets, as important for them as Europe, to protect the USA because is has more competition there.

I don't live in Europe nor would buy the digital version, but Europe was always their most loyal customer base and they choose to screw them over at a whim.

By doing that they lose a lot of my respect.

I don't have any problem with PS fans not being interested in Marathon. My problem is with the haters who want everything free or everything has to be sexualized or just because it's a service they call it Concord 2 when it's actually Concord 3 because the same people called Intergalactic "another Concord" lol.

It's hard for me to expect Sony to totally absorb Bungie because that would mean Marathon didn't do that well, hopefully there is a middle ground where Marathon is actually successful but it doesn't reach an unrealistic goal set by the Bungie's CEO so they don't need to fire anyone and Sony can take more control. In theory after the last round of layoffs Sony took the majority of the seats in Bungie's board of directors.

Early September sounds like a good guess for Yotei. Personally I would love if it releases in August, first half, I was pretty sure DS2 was a July game but it actually releases in June so they have July and August free to release stuff before Borderlands, Marathon and the GTA Vortex.

Nexon going out of their way to schedule a tech test for ARC in the same days the Marathon Alpha is going to happen is actually interesting. They saw that Marathon has a release date and probably started to feel the pressure.

It's funny to me that ARC actually looks more like a "PS game" than Marathon does, it's also funny how The Finals (the other Nexon's game from the same developer) is what comes to my mind when I try to picture what kind of game FairGames will be.

The GBC one plays like the NES games which explains why its cryptic, games of that era were like that lol

I've only played AciD 1 - got turned off from playing 2 because I almost gave up at one point in AciD 1 where I was stuck for a while.

Got to stage 5 and gave up. The game is too dark, it has a bad camera and the movement system makes it all feel very slow. It's just a frustrating experience.

AciD2 is way better. Bright palettes means levels are easier to discern what's what. Camera is improved to not always get caught behind the environment. Movement is smoother to execute (as is crawling/ standing/ leaning against the wall). Will probably finish it unless I hit a difficulty spike.

But I will say I hate the way Snake looks. Very awful attire.
