Switch outsold Wii U and 3DS combined in Japan now. I guess we can finally say that Switch is a success. :D

Wii U: 3.33M
3DS: 24.67M
Switch: 28.1M

That's a pretty hefty 33% ish drop for the Switch YoY even with a new release like Fire Emblem. Not really a great start to the year.

I mean it's all relative.  Without a doubt Switch is nearing market saturation in Japan.  When you think about it that way the 33% drip is also impressive

PS5 console is currently at first place on Amazon JP. It has been like that for a couple of days, so it looks like the demand is there. With enough stock, Sony can have a good year.

Hardware wise, most likely. Software wise, probably as well, but will it be enough of an improvement? Outside of FFXVI and (maybe?) FFVIIRebirth, I’m not sure how they can really make it interesting when the Switch has dominated the top 30 software charts for years now. Street Fighter VI and Resident Evil 4 Remake will stand out for maybe a few weeks or so, but I don’t know what kind of legs they can have in Japan. I’m sure Spider-Man 2 will also be big in Japan, but will it also be a long legged title like Gran Turismo? We’ll just have to see.

Edit: Sorry, “maybe” as in I don’t know if FFVIIRebirth will release this year.

Haha yeah, I had a brain fart moment.

In the meantime I really ask myself what in the world has to happen that Switch does NOT outsell NDS in Japan.
End of year it is at least at 31 Million. Then it needs like 2 Million or so more for the rest of its life.
I guess the probability of Switch is outselling DS in Japan is like 99% at the moment.
Unless something really extraordinary/catastrophic happens, I dont see any chance of Switch NOT outselling NDS in Japan.

Poor legs on One Piece Odyssey.
They really shouldn't have skipped Switch.

Pretty tough to have legs when it has 80-100% sell-through in its opening week, but I fully agree they should not have skipped the Switch. Having played the game, there's nothing that the Switch would have any issues with.

Poor legs? Seems pretty normal to me. Compare to other JRPGs, and you will find that they are similar. Not all games can be Pokemon.

I mean, I agree its hardly a surprise, but going from 35k to 5k and from 26k to 3.5k is still a big drop.
