As I haven't found the time yet to make my official post and write up the game, another series of hints:
#50: You are PTMC's best Material Defender!
Blow up asteroids!
But better search your escape way before you trigger self destruction.
Shoot the robots before they do it with you.
#49: Wake up with a hell of a hangover.
Can't remember a thing.
Wait, I see text in my vision?
Now I am speaking with myself.
#48: What will happen to Stibbons this time?
Razum-dar has a task for this one.
Crafty Lerisa never leaves her crew behind.
Abnur Tharn is a pain in the ass.
#47: Guessed by coolbeans: Project Zomboid
#46: Legend of Wesmere
Under the Burning Suns
A Tale of two brothers
The Hammer of Thursagan

What if it's Microsoft though? Or Nintendo?

50 is correct!
49 is not, but 50 itself could be a roundabout way to hint game 49. Though, maybe that's too farfetched.
| Machina said: I also enjoy reading about why people pick x or y game and rank it so high, especially when it's not Final Fantasy Game #22 or Super Mario Game #54, so your first idea is good. I was actually surprised by how many of the games on your list I recognise Jaicee; there are only a handful I've never heard of. Though that's maybe because I have to browse through so many games each year to compile GOTY lists (on that subject, I see Immortality and Norco made your list this year - they're indies currently on OpenCritic's wall of fame for 2022. When I first came across them I did wonder if they'd be on your GOTY list!). I'm most curious about your Uncharted pick - it's really high on your list, but it's the only Uncharted game you picked, and it's one of the Uncharted games people tend to forget even exists. I expect it's to do with the choice of protagonists, or maybe it's more than that; either way I'm interested in reading your thoughts on it. |
It seems to be the consensus that explainers are the best route for me to go, so I think that's what I do. Not yet sure how I'm going to structure it -- as one big post or a few smaller posts or dedicating like one long post to each title in the top 10 that I link together as I go along. Doing the top 20 seems super ambitious since I'm pretty unlikely to write just a few sentences about anything I feel that strongly about, but 10 should be manageable.
Anyway, yeah I wasn't going to include Immortality when first I reached the "end" credits, but then I started discovering a bunch of hidden stuff that completely changed my perspective on it!
As to The Lost Legacy, it will be more natural to explain my feelings at length, but the most abbreviated version is that, yes, the choice of protagonists here changes the whole feel of everything to me. Though I mean something not being included in the top 50 is by no means a negative implication about it, I might add. By my standards, a hard limit of 50 games is pretty constricting anymore and forces me to be extremely picky. Were we to expand this out to a top 100 list, I guarantee you at least two more Uncharted games would be there. You'd likewise see Hollow Knight and lots of others people may feel that I've slighted.
#50 The bonus stages are for earning continues in this game my friend. If you want those precious jewels, you’ll have to scour the levels themselves.
#49 Story heavy handheld sequel that unfolds over a number of days, rather than one day like the previous game.
#48 With cover art like that, I sort of expect ED-209: The Game
#47 Destroying speakers will stop music playing in that particular part of the level

No to both, but I can see the appeal to Primal Rage. I have Aggelos but haven't played it. Maybe I should try it!

Another one I have and need to play. The game is 'The Messenger', as guessed by Jenjab.

New Super Mario Bros. U |
This is correct! Honestly, this game brought me back to my childhood. I thought the levels were well designed, doing the 'every level has its own unique gimmick' thing better than literally any Mario game before it, and the open world map with shortcuts and detours reminded me of super Mario World in the best ways. And Luigi U is almost as good. This game gets way too much flack and I do not understand why people don't love it more.

I think #49 is Missile Command! I just played it last night via the Atari 50 collection :)
| Jaicee said: So people, I've been thinking that I should find a way to participate on this thread this year. Given what my list is though, there's simply no point in trying to have people guess like what the next entries thereon will be. That's not an opinion, it's a matter of experiential fact. In past years, I've tried participating here on the Discussion Thread in the normal way, only to consistently have nobody guess anything successfully, and soon everybody just gives up on trying. That's been the pattern. Fact is that my favorite games are overwhelmingly indies, most of which it seems not so many people have even heard of before. I'm open to suggestions! I'm looking for some unconventional way to be a part of this Discussion Thread that might be of interest to you (anyone). Here are some ideas that I've had: Idea 1: I could follow the Runa model from last year and explain why I love say my top five or top ten favorite games as much as I do at some length. I really enjoyed reading those posts and think I'd enjoy writing some similar ones of my own too, though I've not tried my hand with banners yet, so any version of this by me may wind up looking less fancy, unfortunately. (I hope I could figure banners out though, 'cause they just add a little something to the presentation.) That is if there's any demand. Idea 2: Alternatively, I could add a second table to my one post in the Official Thread wherein I create additional lists of favorite stuff based on whatever people here request. I love making lists of my favorite stuff! It's a fun way to share a little more about myself. Want a list of my NEXT 50 favorite games? There's an option that can be requested! Want a list of my five favorite PlayStation 1 games by year of release? There's another option you can request! Actually, it's possible that I may just do that anyway because it sounds particularly fun. Anyway, want me to list the episodes of Serial Experiments Lain in order of my preference from favorite to least? There's yet another option! (Doesn't have to game-related, just whatever. Unless your request is like my favorite sex positions; then sorry. :P Use your common sense.) Want a list of my favorite characters in order from a game appearing in the top 10 on the Official Thread? There ya go! You get the idea. These are just hypotheticals. You have no idea how many of these types of lists I already have saved to Google Docs just because I enjoy making them and may already have ready to share. Yes, I'm that much of a dork. Idea 4: I can leave and stop bothering you with stuff you're not the least bit curious about. :P Any interest? Suggestions? |
Honestly, you're the person with the least mainstream and most eclectic taste on this entire forum. I'd LOVE to hear more insight into what makes you like what you like.

#48 - I hope it's Future Cop LAPD - didn't expect anyone else here to have that on their list!
#47 - No idea what this is but that's a neat idea.

Mnementh's list is usually pretty eclectic and niche - lots of older games I've never heard of before.
