Forums - Sales Discussion - PS5 Ships 21.7 Million Units as of June 2022

Seems like a quite negative quarter for playstation, but if they are keeping HW forecast for the year it will pick up the pace, but with sales pushed to HW the SW suffered a hit and they lowered revenue forecast and profits, makes sense. They said the investment money biggest impact was Bungie closing earlier than forecast, so there may have other unannounced stuff involved (other studios that they are already putting money).

With sufficient supply, this thing could’ve been at 35-40 million by now.

40 million consoles sold with only 21 months on the market would have been next to impossible, even with great supply, the PS4 during its peak sales years didn’t get close to that kind of sales pace

Maybe unlikely, but not impossible. PS5 had much more hype upon launch, comparison with the PS4 is kind of futile

Sony has sold just under 21M first party software for the year. I estimate:

HFW: 6M - 8M
GT7: 4M - 5M
MLB: 2M - 3M
Uncharted Legacy of Thieves: 1M+
God of War (PC): 1.5M - 2M+

Yes, those titles did not bomb as others would like to believe. They forget that it took 2 years for the first Horizon to cross 10M. These titles are going to continue to sell and ride the wave of new PS5 shipments each and every month, especially with the monster Holiday coming for Sony. Others may want these titles to fail because it serves their agenda on forums but in the end they are and will continue to be way off the mark.

And they are quality title that can be bundled instead of pricecuting when demand starts to met the offer.

So in the end, PS4 sold almost exactly 30M more than the PS3.

No console has shipped 30 million in it's first 7 quarters let alone 40 million, Wii had the best start with 29.62 million shipped by quarter 7.
