This right there is what a company need to do: support their employees.
If only Sony was Created in American soil they understand what it means to be American and say the right things in USA politics. But yes, Sony is not well versed in American politics I understand the world doesn't revolve around USA.Japan has their line of thinking, Ukraine has their line of thinking,"China has their line of thinking like 1 child per parent and eating human babies if theirs a second child also eat and rob pets from USA and bring them in China to butcher and eat :("
I'm sorry, but no. Sony, like any other multinational organisation, aren't just oblivious to cultural differences.
Could you make the argument that Jim Ryan's perspective on abortion is different to your average American? Sure, maybe. His own individual biases + his own cultural and societal experiences will colour how he views the world.
Sony aren't not approving statements on abortion because they're not American or understand American culture, they're doing it to limit the political stance their company will inevitably have to take on abortion rights. OR, maybe they're in the process of trying to calibrate how the company as a whole is going to move forward in addressing political tensions surrounding such issues, and therefore are not allowing such statements to go through until they've agreed on whatever policy they want to use.
After all, if they agree with pro-abortion messages from employees, should they also not allow anti-abortion messages from their employees too? Surely not allowing the latter is showing no support for them?
i think it's a tricky situation to be in when you're a big organisation. NONETHELESS, Sony should be acting more progressively on these sort of situations. I don't agree with them wanting to not take a firm stand one way or another, but I do understand that it may not be as black and white as it appears. Still, I'm not personally happy with their messaging on this topic of abortion over the last week, so hopefully they can rectify that.
