Exactly
I keep coming to this thread hoping to see discussions about people's picks, but it's instead almost entirely people giving out hints/guessing on hints people give as to what their games are lol. I guess that's more amusing to most, oh well. If anyone's blown away by my picks so far please let me know and we can get a lively discussion going. I'll do likewise starting now.
Can someone explain to my why Wipeout is popular?
S.Peelman said: And next batch of hints. The last one for #47, and the first one for #43. #47: It looks like you stranded on a lovely island, if it weren't for that bird. Hint 2: The centrepiece of this island is a large tower with what looks like a big keyhole. Hint 3: At the end though, there's quite the twist, when it seems like this island wasn't actually real, and was just in the mind of the one that mourns you. So sad. Hint 4: The depiction of the island, and your character, really portrayed a father's process in coming to grips with the loss of his son, your character, and he imagines guiding his son back to him, through the use of a figure with a red cape, and a magical fox. #45: After the end of the second game, this third game starts when the space station of the antagonist crashes, freeing an evil mask with a name that's the exact opposite of the name of your close one-extra-hit protector friend. Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped - Guessed by UnderwaterFunktown #44: In Europe this game came three years after the original release in Japan, but it became a massive phenomenon nonetheless. Pokémon Blue Version - Guessed by Zippy6 #43: Perhaps a hard game to guess and make hints for, but a certain console maker used to make a series of sports games of which the first word (though there's also a game with this first word that's not a sports game) was always the same. This game has something to do with yellow balls. |
#43: Mario Tennis

#47 Correct! #46 Well, it is Tetris, but what's it's exact name (it's not acid)? The other two are wrong. Resident Evil 1 wasn't a flop afaik. #44 is from a franchise that was very long running when the game released. |
#46 is maybe tetris Effect?

Do we know your picks until now?

I can see why this fits, but it’s not Mario Tennis, it’s from another console maker.

That's the one.

Virtua Tennis is correct! There's Virtua Tennis, Virtua Strikers, Virtua Racing and of course Virtua Fighter, but Virtua Cop isn't a sport.
47 is not, though I guess my game is in the same ballpark. At least its graphical style is similar.

A challenging 'easy to play hard to master' difficulty curve, really interesting track designs, lots of different race types, strong visuals, incredibly fast-paced racing, and famously strong soundtracks. Combat is also a surprisingly difficult thing to pull off in a racing game but WipEout always managed to balance it well; there were lots of different weapon types and defensive options, and you had to be really careful to maintain your shields against enemy fire and bashing into the track walls, weighing up whether to enter the futuristic pit stop to recharge and lose time or to risk complete destruction. The original ones also had an almost subversive feel to them, from the advertising campaigns to the menus and announcer - they were a strange mix of utopia and dystopia that created a very unique futuristic vibe. |
Thank you kindly.
